Chuckie2345's review of CityGo Rentals Malta -

“No go with CityGo Rentals Malta / KWL car rentals Qawra”

Written on: 02/10/2015 by Chuckie2345 (1 review written)

We arranged a car rental through an online broker for our recent trip to Malta - 28 August to 12 September 2015 - the supplier was indicated as City Go Rentals Malta and the car rental price for the advertised Skoda wagon appeared very reasonable. When we arrived at Malta airport we were guided to an outdoor area to sign the paperwork - the company had now turned into KWL rentals Qawra - we were then advised that

1. The Skoda wagon was not available and we had to take a Renault Megane wagon
2. we had to pay 54 euro for a half tank of petrol (and it turned out that there was less than half in the tank) - this is over 100% premium on the actual cost of petrol
3. We were asked to take out extra insurance for excess waiver - we said we didn't need it because our credit card covered it - we were then told that we would have to pre-authorise 1500 euro to cover it. We told them this was excessively high but they persisted and we had no choice but to agree - the rep then said that the credit card would not accept the transaction - he tried 4 times and said the pre-authorisation transaction was rejected by my credit card company - I told him this was not possible and offered another card which he rejected - I then rang my bank in his presence and they advised that they had not rejected any transaction requests upon which I asked the car rental rep to try and process it again while I was on the phone to my bank - he said again that it wouldn't process - my bank indicated that he simply wasn't trying to process it
So we were left in a position where we had to pay an additional 165 euros cash for insurance that we didn't want or need (as we had already paid for the rental)
The outcome was that after we booked what we thought was a good rental deal we received an inferior (damaged and dirty) car and had to pay almost twice the price of the advertised deal - misleading and a really disappointing start to our trip
The moral of the story - if the deal looks too good to be true it probably isn't a good deal - especially if you are dealing with CityGo Rentals Malta / KWL car rentals Qawra - dishonest and missleading advertising - I would not recommend this company to anyone
