“Habitation check”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Ducati620 on 07/06/2019

Just had my third habitation check done, last year it was £170. Nearly fell off my chair on being told it was £299 when I collected it. I wasn't informed of this when dropping it off. This price is way over the top for the amount of work done, & its only a six metre van. Plus the gas taps, awning light & fridge were left on. I was warned that the gas bottles were unsafe due to only having one securing strap, this is how the van was delivered from Baileys & it passed your pre delivery check plus two subsequent hab checks, so why is it now a problem? I have always defended Lowdhams in the past but now I feel aggrieved and am unlikely to be a customer again. So for you its short term gain, long term loss.

“Sold a 'brand new', damp-ridden, £19K caravan :(”

★☆☆☆☆

written by DrPB on 17/09/2018

In May, I bought a brand new Swift Basecamp from Lowdhams in Huddersfield for ~£19K. It turns out it had been manufactured improperly and due to unprotected water ingress is now thoroughly damp throughout (80-95%)! Lowdhams have refused to take the caravan back and refund me. We are now in dispute about what happens next. My advice. Avoid Basecamps like the plague. Avoid Lowdhams like the plague. :(

“Lowdhams admit that they DONT do goodwill.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Delaneyhl1989 on 22/05/2018

May 2016 bought a new Hymer motorhome. Lowdhams,Huddersfield had it for 1 week because the 3pin plugs were the wrong way round. It took them 1 week for a habitation check, they had it for another week for an airbag fault. When I went to collect they told me that they couldn't fix it and that I would have to take it myself to a Fiat dealer. It then took 6 weeks to obtain the parts. Last week 5 days after the warranty had run out I had a problem with the step not returning . I phoned Lowdhams and asked as I had lost 9 weeks of warranty, as a gesture of good will would they look at the step, and was told abruptly by the service department that the DO NOT DO GOODWILL. I thoroughly agree with a previous reviewer ,they never return phone calls ,totally inept, and once they have your cash their customer attitude changes. I wish that I had read this review site before dealing with them.

“Would never buy a caravan from this lot again”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Carawoman on 01/04/2018

Excellent at selling you the dream but thereafter just did not want to know. Promise the world and fail every time. They don't reply to telephone messages or emails. Ended up taking legal advice from caravan club which really woke them up. Have since compared our experience with this lot with other caravaners - like ourselves will never use again.

“Not interested once they have your cash”

★☆☆☆☆

written by JaelynnHollis on 06/02/2018

We bought a caravan from Lowdens in 2016, sales was great couldn’t do enough for us, but that where it ends, we had endless warranty problems and had to take it back at least once a month sometimes twice for the first 12 months, we had to constantly chase them for updates, she’s not at her desk was the response most of the time, rarely did they return our calls and one of the lasses in the office wouldn’t look up from her phone until she had finished texting or facebooking or what ever she was doing, then when you tell them you’re there to pick up the van, you’re given the paper work and go and check it yourself, then come back to sign it off. We said we would never go there again, but we say a 2018 Cadiz and wanted one, after talking to the sales manager who told us there was a new GM and things will be changing, if we wasn’t happy at any point go back to him he would sort it etc etc. We decided to go for it with them, we didn’t want it for a couple of months but wanted the finance in place, they wouldn’t do it, the sales person just wanted a deposit telling me if we didn’t put down the deposit we might lose it, Bailey only had 1 left and wouldn’t be making any more until 2019, this was Oct 17, that wound me up and they lost the sale, we went to another local dealer the day after and did the deal, and saved money.

“Poor warranty service”

Yet again I have been fobbed off with an excuse from this company over a warranty issue . Lowdhams need to make far more effort to address problems with newly purchased motor homes .

“UNBELIEVEBLY BAD SERVICE!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Swiftelegance on 18/08/2017

I will start by saying that I have RELUCTANTLY given a one star rating as it is a required field so I'm obliged to do so, I say reluctantly as by choice I wouldn't have rated them at all. I have a Swift Elegance 580 which I bought new from the Huddersfield branch . I am experiencing continuous crazed cracking of the bodywork , which if not annoying in itself on a new van, even more irritating , is the completely inept and couldn't care less attitude of the service dept. My most recent experience has been ongoing since the 19th of July. I am still waiting for answers and returned calls/e mails from the service manager, who always happens to be either in a meeting or on a call whenever I ring, not sure what takes all her time up , it's certainly not making sure her department is doing what it should, but I think it might be easier to get an audience with the Pope. Not happy with the product - very expensive , quality poor, but my real gripe and main frustration is with the dealer and their woeful after sales. WHEN this current problem is finally resolved I would hope I will never have to use Lowdhams Huddersfield again.

“After sales service very poor. ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Thaliae359 on 12/08/2017

we bought a used caravan from Lowdhams, we then asked proof of purchase. Oh dear!! I have been told that they do not give such a thing and that having taken delivery of the caravan, that is proof. I have rang many times, only to be informed that they will return my call, which they do not. As in other reviews, I have found the staff to be rude. Very unsatisfactory.

“Poor and rude attitude from service department”

★☆☆☆☆

written by qnHanley180 on 13/06/2017

I have had problems with the service department and lack of effort from them in resolving a problem with a faulty accessory on my brand new motorhome . They do not return calls , after promising to do so, I have had to call time and time again .A faulty item has not been fixed or replaced despite the service department having two weeks to do so. Excuse after excuse.

“Waste of time”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 28/04/2017

I recently went to view a used 2016 Swift 480 caravan and was treated politely and helpfully by the staff, resulting in receiving a part exchange quotation, which I agreed to consider. Whilst considering the quote that evening I checked their website for any alternatives and found an unused 2016 model for less than the used one! It looked like a bargain so the following day I visited again and asked for a quotation against this van. They did not appear to know about the van but checked and agreed they had got it and gave me a price, a slightly reduced trade-in but it looked like a good deal. I agreed to return in about 2 hours with my wife to look at it, after it had been extracted from storage. I returned as promised to be told that the van had been sold by the Nottingham branch. There was no apology for my wasted journey and they apparently made no attempt to cantact me. Treatment then became totally offhand, and couldn't care less and that was from th Manager. Needless to say I shall not be returning. It may have been a genuine mistake but if so they need a mechanism to put a product on-hold. I rather suspect they had incorrectly priced it and decided it was no longer available.

“first dealing with lowdhams but probably not the last.”

★★★★☆

written by KennaLloyd337 on 16/09/2016

Just purchased a second hand Hymer van conversion from the Huddersfield branch. on the initial viewing i was happy with the choice of van to suit our needs but could have been put off the purchase by the presentation of said van . it was dusty inside and out and not really well presented at all and needed some TLC also had a flat battery so needed a jump start to get it going .I made my concerns to the salesman, and he said it is almost impossible to keep every van on show on site in a 100% condition at all times due to the time on sale and the footfall of potential customers. But he said any van sold will get a full service and valet and a warranty. I pointed out some things i had concerns about on the van and was assured that all would be sorted out through there normal pre delivery system.so i agreed the purchase of the van paid a deposit and waited for the delivery date 4 weeks. chewed my nails for 4 weeks and then the day came ,pick up day!.My "quote, What the hell!! is that it? are you sure? It looks brand new". Happy

“Poor Attitude ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by AdrienParrish on 06/09/2016

Yesterday (Monday) first thing (around 10.30am) rang to speak to a salesman as I am interested in buying a new Hymer. The automated system directed me to the sales department but the phone was not answered. I was informed by the automated system that everybody was busy and that if I left my details somebody would ring me back. It is now Tuesday at 12.40pm and I am still waiting! This makes me very suspicious because if their communications are this bad with a potential sale in the offing, what would they be like on service queries. My last statement is a tad rhetorical as the other comments posted on this sight seem to spell it out.

“Good service”

★★★★★

written by ScaleModelShop on 28/07/2016

We have just bought a new Bailey caravan from Lowdhams, and it's our first time dealing with them, the van was ready in about 10 days just in time for us to go away in it. When we went to pick it up we was given quite an extensive introduction to the van, we was show where everything was and how it worked, while we was there we bought a Fiamma awning, the people in the shop was kind enough to fit it for us, am we was glad they did, it turned out to be quite fiddly putting the retaining clips on. We dealt with two advisors, both of whom was very helpful, I've seen more bad than good reviews on here, maybe because people are more likely to say something when they are unhappy than when they are happy with something.

Bought my 07 eldiss last yr, took silver warranty at £350. The caravan has leaked in 3 places and today iv been told that it has to be damp tested again in a month as its not showing high enough on the readings so meanwhile I'm £350 down and have 2 buckets in van catching water and the only time it leaves the drive is to visit lowdhams as apparently they there not insured to work offsite....customer aftercare is disgusting and you might as well light fire with warrenty booklet.....will be seeking legal advice

“Not Recommended - Very poor post-sales Customer Service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Maddenpk195 on 03/07/2016

Purchased a new caravan from Lowdhams Huddersfield in mid 2015 - be extremely wary that good initial buying experience quickly fades with very poor after sales experience following reporting and non-replacement of missing trim (which the Sales Manager was adamant that I should have reported within 30 days; we initially thought it was part of the design until we realised on our Easter 2016 holiday that trim was actually missing). Sales Manager has unrealistic expectations upon customers with very poor customer service and dealings - no doubt he had already had his commission so simply was not interested. I won't be buying a caravan from this company again. NOT RECOMMENDED.

Under the consumer rights act 2015 you can take the van back up to six years after you bought it. We are in the middle of handing our Chausson 514 back as it has been not fit for purpose from been eleven months old. It is now three years old and still keeps breaking down. Lowdhams Huddersfield are the worst company I have ever had to deal with. You can complain through the national caravan council about them. Remember the law is on your side. All the best.

“Do not book a habitation check with lowdhams Huddersfield”

★☆☆☆☆

written by LillyHumphrey400 on 14/12/2015

We recently booked a habitation service for our Hymer motorhome with the Huddersfield branch. We dropped it off at 830am as requested and was told that they would ring us when it was ready to collect usually around 3pm. We didn't receive any call so we turned up at 3pm .We were handed the keys for our 'van and was told it had 'clean bill of health'and no problems were found. We then queried this with them as there was some minor faults with the motorhome but the main defects are there was dampness detected and the water heater did not work on mains electric. So we queried this with the receptionist who's respone was that 'Did we mention these faults to them when we dropped it off?!'.Excuse me!That's why we are paying you! The manager or the technician who'carried out the inspection' would not come out their office!busy talking and drinking tea!The receptionist then added that 'we should be glad that they have agreed to undertake the service as we didn't purchase the 'van from them anyway! We are paying clients! The receptionist then added that she couldn't stamp our service book, for our warranty as they had run out of stickers!but one would be posted out to us first class....we still have not received it.I wouldn't recommend Lowdhams at Huddersfeld. I would like to add that the Nottingham branch were brilliant (the previous year) and the service we received from them was very good.

Had similar awful expereince with Lowdhams Crossland Moor. Bought a used motorhome from them in June 2015 and from the outset, had problems with the habitation door not locking and the cab battery gong flat in less than a week. Despite the van being returned to them 3 times, they didn't remedy either problem despite having claimed to have done so on each occassion.
On the final occassion, Lowdhams said they needed the van for a week. In the event, they had it three weeks and didn't sort the problem.
We found the staff particulalry unhelpful. They sought to deflect the conversation on every occassion and seemed incapable of understanding the problem saying that they would look at the matter to get you off the phone. Despite them, saying they would report back, it was us who had to ring and were always given excuses for why the work that we had listed, in writing, hadn't been done.
We have the "benefit" of a Lowdhams warranty but this does not release Lowdhams from complying with the requirements of the Sale of Goods Act, the Supply of Goods and Services Act and now the Consumer Rights Act.
We will not take the motorhome to Lowdhams for anything in the future and have found an alternative dealer to carry out the habitation check necessary Lowdhams' warranty. As several posters on the site have said, look elsewhere if buying a motorhome. There are plenty of other dealers and I would recommend searchinfg for reviews of the dealer before parting with your hard-earned cash.
