Middletonduff's review of Camera World

“250 miles for what?”

★★☆☆☆

written by Middletonduff on 05/08/2013

This is the second visit to Camera World. They speak of their knowledgeable friendly approach. So my initial purchase was for a small filter. The filter was bought without even an acknowledgement. " I have travelled from Manchester to see what your operation was about" I said, hoping for some encouraging conversation to help make my mind up about parting with some serious money in the coming months. The blank expression and the pause for over 3 minutes when I broke the silence to ask for a bag for the £40 purchase.

I thought maybe that was a one off. So I phoned asking for a battery pack for my D600. Yes we have one came the reply. Great I said I'm in London on
Monday can I pick it up. I arrived with my wife and picked up the battery pack. I decided a new camera bag would be nice and politely asked would there be any chance of a discount if I bought the bag as well as the battery pack. Battery pack cost £200.00, the camera bag £64.00. Nope came the reply. What you wouldn't even knock £4.00 off the price? Nope sorry maybe in the 1980's but not now. Oh, I said, well that will be that then. Left and went to jessops and bought same bag for £50.00.
Customer service costs nothing but can gain you a lot of business. They claim a lot but if you are travelling from a distance to get the "experience", be warned this is a mediocre shop with salespeople who are doing all the damage. No wonder most people are buying off the Internet instead of going down this road. In my opinion!

What makes people think they have the right to a discount..? What makes you special, what about the 100's of other people that spend a lot more than you. Its a shop not a boot sale!

I expect nothing. But, that said as a shop owner I also aware that one of the ways to encourage regular business is to at times price match and make your customer want to come and do
More business with you. That way you gain customer loyalty even if your price is a little higher at times. Also a smile and I'm glad you have chosen my shop to come in. It doesn't matter if you come 30 feet or 18000 miles to come to my shop, the service you provide should make a customer want to spend.
That didn't happen here, nor did it happen on my last visit. I thought you would know this, but I guess that's why your just a "B"Store and not an "A".
