I've been with Butterfield for 5 years now and have been 101% happy with the service; it's good old-fashioned human to human banking.
However, I recently received a letter stating the planned start of 'service' charges in 3 weeks time... which will cost me £3,600 per annum unless I deposit £500,000 in each account.
I'm confident I wont be the only client soon to be an ex, such a shame as service has been exemplary over the years but I couldn't unfortunately recommend Butterfield Bank at the rates they are introducing.

I would consider making a complaint through the FOS. I received a similar letter and made an official complaint which the bank are legally required to investigate. 1500% increase in charges - greedy bankers springs to mind.
Other thought if course is whether Butterfield are fit and proper to be a bank if it needs to increase charges by this much.
