“Nasty bunch of people posing to help businesses ”

They will stitch you up by behaving in a very underhand manner. They have a terrible business model and catch people out who don't want to spend hours reading terms and conditions. STAY WELL AWAY OR YOU WILL END UP IN COURT WITH THEM AND THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF.

BUSINESS RESPONSE - Setting The Record Straight.

The current annual membership fee is £49.90 +vat. To ensure there is no disruption to services the CBT do operate an automatic renewal. If a member wishes to opt out and cancel their membership due to business closure or for any other reason they can do so AT ANY TIME throughout the year with just 30 days notice prior to the renewal.

The CBT was established in 2007 and all members benefit with year round advertising and a host of other benefits available on request.

“Lost to CBT, Serve me right”

★☆☆☆☆

written by AnyUser123 on 30/03/2015

Today at court I lost to CBT, serve me right. I have to cough up £470.00, it is really something very hard and difficult to pay at this hard times. If you have a dispute with CBT, avoid to go to court, there is no way you can win. I have used 1001 reasons to persuade the court to dismiss the case. But didn't work. If you are in any dispute contact them to get an agreement to pay what they want.Otherwise if you go to court, you may end up paying four or five times of what they want.

“ANOTHER HAPPY MEMBER OF THE CBT.”

★★★★★

written by georgie89 on 23/10/2014

I rate them as the best association for the small annual membership cost of £50 a year. Where can you get advertising alone for as little as a pound a week never mind all the other services they give? I am paying £50 per month for my website at the moment so I’m going to cancel it and have the CBT do a new site for me for free as it is all included in the membership. Member services have a professional, courteous approach when dealing with enquiries. I have found the advice given most helpful and I have solved a difficult problem with their help. I'm now in my 2nd year of membership and happy to continue with the CBT. I would strongly recommend them to any other business… except to my competitors ☺☺☺☺

“A GOOD AFFORDABLE ASSOCIATION”

★★★★★

written by ethel.b on 25/09/2014

I’m a happy member of the CBT. I joined as I needed a good affordable organisation with use of an association logo for help, advice and to promote my family run business. I can always discuss any problem that might be a worry and they have the lowest membership fee gong of £49.90 a year. I can cancel at anytime with just 30 days notice so I would be very interested if anyone knows of a better organisation that gives all the benefits such as a free website, hosting, web reports and business directory listings for the low cost of £49.90 a year or less. I haven’t found one yet so I’m going to stick with the CBT and I give them a 5 star rating.

Lucky you. I and many other members disagree with you. We fell to the trap of Confederation of Businesses and trades. We are offered free membership or discounted membership. Later our membership renewed without our notice for an extortion of £220.00. Each one of us has a different story to tell. In my case, I swear when I joined, the membership was under £50.00, I got a discounted membership at £10.00 + VAT. But when I got membership papers, I saw the invoice, stating membership discounted from £220.00, which meant I would have to pay £220.00 for the renewal for the following year. Frankly I didn't mind because I thought they would generate a worthwhile business and expected a return of at least 5 times of £220.00. This was based on their inflated claims and images. But guess what? I didn't get one business enquiry from their website. Because of that I forgot about them. Later unexpectedly I got a final reminder from them asking for an extortion of £220.00 for nothing, that is right for nothing. I will soon see them in court. It is my duty to put them out of business. They are a threat on small businesses.

Hi,
My review is based on my own personal experience, I have no complaints against the CBT at all and furthermore the CBT are currently getting one of my bad customers pay an invoice that I've been unsuccessfully chasing for months.

I stand by the 5 star rating that I gave them because l feel they deserve it.

It would seem that you are in the middle of some kind of dispute and all I can say is good luck to you.

Conderation of Business and Traders are dreadful ripoff merchants avoid like the plague. They are ripoff merchants posing as there to offer help for small businesses yet when challenged over why they have taken payment without asking they abide by there small print terms and conditions. Again we are a small business and the above company Conderation of Business and Traders have renewed without notifying ourselves. We challenged the auto renewal and was told about the terms and conditions. They are a shady outfit with no substance or stature. DO NOT USE they are here to rip you off and other businesses. They are not here to help complete waste of space and money. Conderation of Business and Traders are a dodgy outfit automatic renewal if challenged in law wouldn't stand up. Please make it clear. Did they charge your credit or debit card to renew your membership without asking you? I assume you previously paid them with your credit/debit card. They kept details of your credit/debit card. When renewal time came, they charged your credit or debit card to renew your membership. If it is like that, you can ask your credit/debit card to get the money back. Because they were not allowed to keep details of your credit/debit card without your consent and were not allowed to charge your credit or debit card without your consent.

“Stay Clear of this organization”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 25/02/2014

I fully agree with all the other previous reviews of this company - they are conning everybody and should not be allowed to practice business in the manner they do. I too was sucked in by their lack of notification regarding renewal and found it extreamly difficult to speak to anyone about membership, when I did eventually speak to someone who portrayed to be the Customer Services Manager he was very unhelpful, just kept quoting the 'Terms & Conditions' of membership and would not let me speak to anyone in the Accounts Dept, saying that I had to do everything by email, I too do not believe there are many staff within this organisation - I think its just one guy and an somebody who comes in a couple of days a week to answer emails. STAY AWAY

written by on 09/01/2014

One would expect an organization of such a name to provide the example of best practices of trade and industry. However by just making an enquirer with them they will later make you believe that you signed up with them and will threaten you constantly until you cough up! My advice as I have done is just to ignore them.

I have prepared a defence arguement of over 20 pages but my voice is very bad. If can come to the court to read my defence I will appreciate a lot. I let you know the time, date and place in time. “BEST VALUE FOR MONEY”

★★★★★

written by barry_s on 24/10/2013

Instead of paying monthly to my old web/hosting company I've joined the CBT and I now get a website and hosting for free. I've saved money even with paying the membership fees. After seeing the bad reviews about cancelling I was concerned so I went back to their terms again and it's very clear what to do if you want to cancel the membership. I payed £11.40 for a domain for 2 years and thats it, the website is promoted to get me more business. I've looked around and this organisation is the best value for money.

written by arasca on 12/06/2013

These people are scamming businesses. All the big companies you see on their websites are not their member! They don't provide any support at all. Read the small print in T&C carefully. Despite our emails and letters they haven't cancelled our membership and demanding more payment for the renewal. You have to request cancellation code in specified time period and if you lucky you will get an reply. STAY AWAY !!!

“A good trade association to be in.”

★★★★★

written by janie07 on 05/04/2013

I joined the CBT and I'm now in my third year. They've given me a website and hosting all part of the membership. I've had on several occasions some bad debts with customers refusing to pay my invoice. The CBT solved these problems for me and gave advice to prevent future problems. For the help, advice, advertising and services provided I find the annual charge well worth while. I've read the negative reviews on this site and they all relate to companies that don't want to pay their subscription. All I can say is that if you sign up for something you should read and understand what you're signing up for. I'm sure that the Confederation of Businesses and Traders have many many more satisfied members than those few dissatisfied ones writing here. In my book the CBT is to be recommended.

Do you think its fair for them to charge £11.99 for a full years subscription, and then without knowing you have to cancel before it is due charge £220.80 for the next year.
Obviously you do think that is fair

“Total rip off”

★☆☆☆☆

written by allegro.ne on 05/04/2013

Last year was rung up and offered membership for a year for a very small amount it was under £20.Never heard anymore until I got the renewal notice for £220.80 and now realised they have it stated that you have to give notice before it is due.Surely you should be told this in the first place. Not interested being in it anyway. If you join the RAC they have a rolling membership but you just cancel. If its so good to be in why do they bend over backwards to stop you leaving. Had a really bad year with the weather so don't even have the money to pay it anyway. Have been in touch with the financial ombudsman so they will be fighting my case. Should be told once you join what the yearly fee is and hard to cancel. All this over a phone call from them if you get one-hang up.

I think it is ridiculous that they can get away with it I did say it was less than £20 I was charged for the first year but it was actually £11.99 so they only charged me 18 times more for the 2nd year.I have seen a lot smaller scams on watchdog and the likes on tv.I really think if anyone thinks this company is acting unfairly(though they do get some nice reviews) they should complain to trading standards or the financial ombudsman to put a stop to it.

“FREE BUSINESS DIRECTORY ENTRY”

written by ImJackthelad on 19/03/2013

I recently got an email from the CBT, subject "GET A FREE BUSINESS DIRECTORY ENTRY". I entered my details and got what it said on the tin, a Free Directory Entry complete with a link to my website. No charge! They emailed me to say when the entry was live and I've had no problem with the CBT at all. All pretty straight forward, I would like to thank the them for the free entry.

Unfortunately reviews on the internet is not always 100% true and generated by real customers / peoples who used the service.

We had to pay another year of subscription now despite our emails and letters requesting cancellation but because it is stated in the small print you have to request a cancelation code within the defined timescale. They will renew your membership and demand a payment.

I will generate as much as information about this company and their tactics and I hope I will save as many businesses I can.

“reply to I.d.s.'s response to Guest's Review”

★☆☆☆☆

written by taghipour on 05/10/2012

Thank you We found that I.d.s.'s response to Guest's Review (no name was given) of Confederation of Businesses and Trades (CBT) explanation interesting and thought to add this comment. Obviously, our experience of dealing with Confederation of Businesses and Trades (CBT) suggest otherwise. It sounds unusual that this company namely; Confederation of Businesses and Trades (CBT) offers help only to "non-members by allowing free entry to the business directory with no charge" but the same; Confederation of Businesses and Trades (CBT) charges its members as admitted that " ...they do make a yearly charge for membership" and added that the membership will be renewed in Confederation of Businesses and Trades' way without sending "... renewal notices but if a member wants to cancel they can simply phone or email as stated in the terms." Furthermore, our records reveals that; on 25th April 2012 I have phoned and emailed Confederation of Businesses and Trades (CBT) to cancel our account. On the following day Confederation of Businesses and Trades (CBT) emailed and informed us that "With reference to your request to cancel received by e-mail on the 25/04/12. Cancellations are subject to sections 8 and 9 of the terms of membership to which you are bound and cannot be cancelled at this time" After Confederation of Businesses and Trades (CBT) commencing a claim at the county court against us please see above for more details. On 2nd September 2012 I have emailed Confederation of Businesses and Trades (CBT) which we noticed uses a few email addresses in its communication with us, to cancel our account. On 5th September 2012 OD (accounts), Confederation of Businesses and Trades (CBT) which also bearing "The UK's Leading Multi Trade Association Apply for membership online" with contact details beside the company logo almost at the bottom of her email informed us that: "In reply to your e-mail dated 02/09/2012. I regret to inform you that your membership cannot be cancelled at this time and will be due for renewal on the 12/4/2013. You may cancel the renewal of your membership by notifying us at anytime between the 11/2/2013 and the 13/3/2013 and obtaining a cancellation reference code in compliance with our terms and conditions (section 9). This cancellation reference code should be retained as confirmation of the termination of your membership." Therefore, there is certain time to be able to cancel your own account and must be on guard for ever. No wonder, the unnamed member of CBT conclude that " I give the CBT the thumbs up and invite you to read my full review of the Confederation of Businesses and Traders Mr Taghipour, Doctors Makeover LTd

Yes if you can share the courts ruling that would be great as we have been trying to extricate ourselves from this company for ages. We're not sure what they do, we don't want it, we have written several times to cancel our membership (whatever benefits that is) but ther seems to be numerous confusing obstacles put up to stop you from cancelleing membership. I wouldn;t recommenrd anyone joins this confederation. It just deosn't seem right they can pracitce like this - even if they can they shouldn't. My husband isn't even trading anymore!

I am sorry to hear about your problems of getting rid of Confederation of Businesses and Traders (cBT). Unfortunately, we lost the court case and we have to pay cBT. The judge mentioned that the Internet consumers are protected much less than other situations and my understanding was that the gentleman at CBT (probably a tired solicitor) knows the "Rules" of this game and he is exploiting this weakness in the present regulations. I suggest you report your case to your local Trading Standers Officer who are probably the only organization which have legal power to intervene and take legal action against cBT for misleading the public. Trading Standard Officers has already informed about cBT and the Law Society is another organization which will be interested to know if any solicitor involve in a such unethical activities. Most probably cBT sponsors will be upset if they become aware such unethical activities by cBT. You can find the list of their sponsors by frequent visit to Confederation of Businesses and Traders (CBT) website.

“The CBT Has Been A Great Help To My Business.”

★★★★★

written by on 04/10/2012

I run a painting and decorating business and joined the CBT five years ago in 2007. Apart from providing me with a website and free web hosting they've given me good advice on many occasions when I've had problems. The membership is renewed every year and I pay my dues. I consider the website, hosting, free advertising, use of the logo and membership benefits well worth the annual fee. I like others don’t like paying but I if they didn't make a charge they wouldn't be there would they? I recently noticed that my site started looking a bit tired over the years and after speaking with a rep at the CBT they updated the site giving it a new look at no charge at all. After five years I can honestly say that I'm satisfied and confirm that I intend to continue the membership and give thanks for all the assistance they’ve given me.

Thank you.
You might not be aware because I far as I am aware, you can have such services free by some web hosting companies who also provide you with pre-designed templates to built up your own company website free of change. For example, wix is one of them offering free website services and if you want to know more please contact me.
However, it is unusual for a happy customer to leave such review about the Confederation of businesses and traders (cBT) anonymously. Today, I had an email from another company and when I spoke to them I was also told that they have been tricked by Confederation of businesses and traders (cBT) into a contract. The same story of Free directory listing initially then by clicking on accepting on "terms and conditions" you are trapped and about two weeks later you get demands for payment of more than 200 Pounds from the Confederation of businesses and traders website: confedbt.
I have written to CBT on the number of occasions. On 4th December 2013, I wrote to Confederation of businesses and traders and mentioned that "I hope you realize that what you are doing is unethical and I do not want to live on this sort of handouts". There is an elderly man and relatively young lady behind this. I met both them when I attended Basildon County Court. On their company website: confedbt on the top of the first home page misleadingly mentions: "The Confederation of Businesses and Traders is all about providing free continuous business support, advertising, web services and recognition for associated members" Once you are in their trap it is very difficult to get rid of them because the Confederation of businesses and traders' Terms and conditions sets out that:
Membership renewals and cancellations are subject to our terms and conditions section 9.2 as seen below.
9.2
The renewal of your Memberships can be cancelled by the member or authorised person by contacting the CBT by e-mail or telephone and obtaining a cancellation reference code. To request a cancellation reference code you must contact the CBT no sooner than 60 days and no later than 30 days before the anniversary of your joining date. This reference code should be kept as proof of your resignation. The Member will remain liable for any outstanding membership or other fees, if applicable.
The full terns and conditions can be viewed from our web site
