“Very disappointed in price changes”

★☆☆☆☆

written by voHudson104 on 16/10/2020

I received an email telling me that our household broadband contract was coming to an end. BT kindly offered us options and I accepted the cheapest offer, which was a £5 per month increase (this represents a sixth extra on what we are currently paying). No sooner had I, reluctantly, signed up to the increase, the postman delivered a letter from BT telling me that my contract, in fact, ends in February, not immediately as inferred and, in my opinion, this was not clearly indicated on the email renewal. So to recap the price for what our household receives has risen by 16% on top of the recent 1% (approx) annual rise, so effectively 17% (getting on for a fifth) and I have been coerced into paying it nearly five months early. As a result of this I would not recommend BT and once the 2 year contract I am now bound to has expired I will be seeking a different provider. As a final point the service here is also dismal with regular daily dropouts.

“Perfect once the line to the house was sorted”

★★★★☆

written by maserlin on 18/06/2019

Had an absolute nightmare for the first month, the helplines are awful, the website useless. Constant disconnections, VERY slow speeds when it did work, basically unusable. Spent literally days on the phone ( to India! :( ) but then I got in touch with the CEO via email (Not sure if you can still do this - google it!) and they put a dedicated UK team onto it from the business section. This resulted in a decent level of attention, and engineer visits - which didn't fix anything. So far so bad. Then I had an extension socket wired in by a private guy who was ex-BT. He took one look at the external cabling and said "There's your problem". A BT engineer was coming that day and I pointed out the external connections: mounting box fitted upside down and not closed properly so the rain was getting in, and the cable from the pole was joined very badly and wrapped up with masking tape! He checked the signal from exchange to cabinet, cabinet to telegraph pole and pole to house and called Openreach who amazingly, turned up within an hour with a lifter platform, as this is their responsibility. Openreach replaced the degraded 1970's cable from the pole and all the dodgy connections through to the house with one brand new uninterrupted cable - free of charge. Since then - uninterrupted perfection. Even better I get a great deal on 4 mobile sims included and it seems to get cheaper every year :) NEVER going back to Virgin. Love BT. You just have to know which trees to shake to get the right result! So what would have been a one-star review all the way has been turned right around.

“STAY AWAY FROM BT BROADBAND”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Chasity388 on 20/01/2018

I switched to BT broadband fast fibre. The engineers failed to turn up (twice), they don't have a complaints department and they refuse to return your calls. The worst service I have ever received. I went on the BT Forum to complain and they deleted my messages! I'd like to give a review of BT Broadband's performance - but it's been a month and I still don't have it.

“Easy renewal, Fair price, great speed”

★★★★★

written by DonteChurchill on 11/08/2017

Was delighted to renew by Fibre for a second year with BT. There speed over the last year has exceeded my estimate and beat my previous provider into the ground. The renewal was an easy-one-click process and I got to keep my BT sport offer too. Happy recommend to anyone.

“BT Broadband is good but expensive.”

★★★☆☆

written by Phil1990 on 14/09/2015

I used BT Broadband for a year and while the service itself was reasonably good, the price to pay was just too much (about £40+) for such a standard broadband speed service. Also, they kept BT Sports active which was £5 a month which I never used so it was money wasted. Can't really recommend BT at all when Plusnet, Talktalk and even Sky are better than BT. The customer service wasn't terrible but very displeasing as they couldn't get the issues fixed quickly whereas when I spoke to Sky via Live Chat they did it in no time. I'm a Plusnet customer and happy with their service.

“Don't use BT”

★☆☆☆☆

written by RichyJC on 12/06/2014

DO NOT USE THIS RUBBISH COMPANY! Internet speed in evening is so slow. Try to call them to sort it loads if times, always rude, always trying to pretend its due to the wireless connection. Their staff are basically blagging it. If it was wireless it would be all the time. It's clearly some form of throttling. Bottom line is they just say the speed is fine and are only willing to send an engineer out during the day when the problem isn't then. They are basically getting £30 a month for nothing as I only really want the internet in the evening. Speeds are often 0.3mbs in evening. Avoid like the plague. I certainly will even be a customer of theirs again. As I wilL have to pay some hefty price to get out of them and get sky back in. As they have point blank refused to cancel the contract.

“Good, but expensive”

★★★☆☆

written by on 30/12/2013

Recently added this to my grandmother's BT landline. Router arrived on time, connection came live on time, plugged it in and all worked fine straightaway no problems. Speed is iffy by modern standards, but then the house is in the county and we in the UK are still dreaming of having a proper internet infrastructure, and BT aren't going to change that and time soon. If you are adding it to a BT 'phone line, it's £2.50 a week, and you can't get a lot for that these days, but the overall cost of a line and broadband is pretty outrageous, but then, they have a monopoly on the line and of things so what can one expect?

“Dropping out BT homehub”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 10/09/2013

I have been with BT broadband for about 18 months now and in general it is not too bad with the exception of the annoying habit of the BT homehub drops out (looses internet connection) if it is not used for half an hour or so. Have tried everything including new Cat. six ethernet cable between homehub and computer, existing filters are relatively new and high quality, and I have searched all forums for a solution - without success.. The only thing I have not done is to contact BT as their overseas call centres drive me mad. I get around 6.5Mb/sec download but upload is abysmal about 300 kb/sec. Our exchange only supports upto 8.0 Mb/sec so I cannot expect faster download. When I first had BT broadband installed I was not getting anything like the download they promised and eventually after a lot of phone calls and letters I got Openreach down and they contacted India and found they had not set me up correctly something to do with my B Ras profile - whatever that is. I was extremely annoyed about that. Also I found I was regularly exceeding the download limit of 10GB per month and when I telephoned they immediately put me on an unlimited deal at no extra cost - why could they not have done that with my initial contract - I was annoyed about that too. The contract is due to run out end of 2013 so I might try another broadband provider. Would I recommend BT broadband? No.

“Terrible connection. Terrible Value. Virgin was better”

★☆☆☆☆

written by matthewpoll on 09/05/2013

We got broadband internet from BT, about two months ago. On the day of the braodband switch over, (from virgin) we were told that it might take up to 10 days for the broadband to be 100% OK. The connection is still poor two months later. It regularly disconnects. We were with virgin before, & they are slightly more expensive compared to BT, - in hindsight we would have just stayed with them. Our wireless box has been provided by BT. We've tried using the internet locally, with the cable plugged into a laptop, & the connection is better than using it wireless but can still occasionally disconnect. If we try to use the internet wireless, it disconnects/ is very slow on a frequent basis. BT have repeatedly blamed us for the poor wireless, by saying that we must have other devices interfering with it. We've changed the channel on the wireless box multiple times, but it does not improve it. BT's customer service is below par, too.

There is a web site which tells you the broadband speeds in this area Virgin are by far the fastest. I left BT and went to Plusnet as it is half the price of BT but they are the same company. I had some interference and found that I had to clear the browsing history and eventually not go to certain web sites to stop it. Two out of five for customer service is a bit high.

“Abysmal service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by SussexUK on 27/02/2013

If you can avoid using BT or any part of the BT group of companies (e.g. BT openreach), I highly recommend you do so. I have been using BT for many years now and had no issues until about 3 years ago. Since then I have had to phone up Dehli and speak to their "customer services" on a far too regular basis. They make you pay for an "up to 8mbps service" and give you a 0.3-1.3 speed. My phone and broadband went entirely down 8 weeks ago, it took them an entirely inexcusable 7 weeks to fix a simple fault. Despite costing me a great deal of time and money, all they offered was an insulting £30 in compensation. If you give BT your business, they will treat you with contempt!

“Absolute rubbish”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ked on 21/10/2012

Had to use bt as other companies wanted to charge us for the use of the bt line. Has been a nightmare. Soon after taking out the contract our land line went down. Rang Delhi I forget how many times. Call centre staff patronising and incomprehensible. Told me it was my fault because the phone was off the hook - as if! Then said main entry socket faulty and I needed a call out to repair it at £99 cost. As if by magic the line was working the next day so obviously a line problem not the internal socket. Tried to cancel call out but call centre woman did not understand what I was talking about. Also promised download of 3.5-actually getting 1.3. Really appalled at the whole package.

“Avoid BT if you value your sanity”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 01/08/2012

I have called BT 19 times in the last two weeks trying to get our broadband sorted out. They promise speeds of 16MB and we get 0.4. Yep, that's not a typo, 0.4. The international call centre is a disgrace - if you can hear them talking to you you know they're telling lies. Each call took between 1.5 and 2 hours and I now know their script so well I could work there with no training - their 'advisors' clearly haven't had any. Every time you call they start the entire testing process from the beginning, promise call backs and engineer appointments that never happen. And in the meantime I'm trying to earn a living with internet speeds that mean I can't even listen to radio, let along watch the videos and access the different sites I need to. I cannot tell you how stressful and frustrating it has been dealing with BT - you feel that you're losing your mind and get nowhere. It isn't possible to get across how much I hate BT. Next stop for me is OfCom and writing to the board. I'm going to move to another provider but have found this experience so horrendous I've no idea who to go for.

“BT Broadband Hub3 ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Honestuser on 02/06/2012

Recently decided to purchase BT Broadband . Everything appeared to go ok until I tried to get the system to connect to internet . I am sure the system would have been fine but felt so let down when trying to resolve problems with service desk and way they spoke to me that decided to return the whole package .Can only really comment on the service desk but as that can be a life line when things go wrong I would recommend you find another supplier .

“Customer Service Nul Points”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Kijana on 10/05/2012

We notified BT that we wanted to cancel the expensive plan (contract expired) we were on, and go onto normal service supply. So without notice they cut off all our telecommunications - telephones, fax, e-mail. The business could not communicate for over 3 weeks. 52 telephone calls and over a dozen letters later, BT said that PROVIDING WE AGREED TO A 5-YEAR CONTRACT on all our lines, they could reconnect within a week, but if we did not agree to that, it could take weeks (= "slamming"). Eventually, over and again they kept telling us it was reconnected when it was not. Finally it took Open Reach to come out and confirm that they had not programmed the box properly, which is why it was not connected even though they said it was. Not a flicker of apology from BT. Complained to Ofcom, and sent them ORIGINAL of BT's letter about 5 year contracts. BT told Ofcom they did not say that, so Ofcom supported them, and agreed with BT that this document was a figment of everyone's imagination. No surprise there, since BT are probably the largest provider of the Ofcom people's wages.

“Great service, shame about the price”

★★★☆☆

written by Excalibur1953 on 29/11/2011

BT beats the rest for reliability, its just a shame they cant get their phone and broadband package under £50 a month, because paying £600 a year plus is a big hit for most households in the UK right now.

“If the countless negative reviews don't dissuade you,...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 15/10/2011

If the countless negative reviews don't dissuade you, then create yourself a reviewcentre account and I look forward to reading your "a one star rating is two stars too many" review. Sales rep managed to get my name wrong, btinternet mail account set with this incorrect name, wrong contract start date which meant I would be made to wait an additional month and mis-sold on the package, deciding I needed to be on a package that was never discussed on the call. I called 4 times to get them to correct my name, they even had to raise a ticket to resolve this but unfortunately gave me a ticket number which didn't exist, in fact, it turned out that no tickets had been raised. At this point, having had no success in speaking to a single competent worker, I asked to cancel my contract. They put me through to a dept where they specialise in rudeness. After wasting 5 minutes of my life explaining to an idiot, he got out his BT customer service manual and performed as a BT employee is expected to: (1) Never talk calmly, shout wherever possible (2) Talk down to customers, sarcasm is mandatory (3) Customer satisfaction is a luxury and cannot be offered without management approval We all know BT product is pathetically poor, customer service very, very poor but price is competitive .... but would you go to the tip and pay money for rubbish cos it's cheap?
