Advised by our plumber to opt for intergas. TBH had never heard of them. 7 years in and hasn't missed a beat in a 4 bed 3 bathroom semi. Very happy ????

“Not a reputable company”

written by DelilahBurnham481 on 04/11/2022

We are told - 4 years after installing - that our model needs to be stripped every 4 years due to its poor design becoming apparent. Costs us several hundred pounds, which should be paid for by the manufacturer if they cannot design it properly. Never again.

“Regret Choosing Intergas”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Sky999 on 28/01/2020

What can I say? We had an Intergas Boiler installed two years ago. For the first year it was absolutely woeful. Didnt heat water reliably, had problems getting radiators hot and continual banging at the boiler and radiators. It was finally diagnosed by an Intergas engineer who found a fault. It then worked great. Now we pay a yearly maintenance fee but the service is poor. Last year they were late. Today we waited all day and no one showed up. Not even a courtesy call to explain.

“PCB failure”

★★★★★

written by johnmgardner on 07/04/2019

Bought my second Intergas boiler having moved to the south coast. One month before the guarantee expired, the ignition system failed due to a pcb fault. I rang intergas in the midlands and the engineer asked me how far was I from Southampton as he had a call there the next day. He turned up at 8.00a.m. the following morning and changed the board which was sent to Holland for analysis. Now that's what I call SERVICE!

“Intergas here boiler. Brilliant boiler, get one.”

★★★★★

written by ksMcLain11 on 23/12/2018

Absolutely fantastic boiler. When I first bought my house I replaced the boiler with a Worcester Bosch 24-28Si series 2. What an absolute garbage boiler that was. Noisy, kept breaking down, kept losing water pressure and having to top it up. Hot water took ages to warm up. The service man had so many visits I thought I knew him. Last year, after only 10 years of the Worcester boiler I bought an Intergas hre 24. What a lovely boiler. No problems, serviced for £82, quiet as a mouse. Heats the house up in no time at all. Hot water can get very hot when you've used the central heating, but just run it and it stabilises to a comfortable temperature in seconds. Saw one of the earlier reviews about the water burning a child's hand, if you let your child near a hot water tap then you need your head examined. Just let the tap run and it'll settle down to normal temperature. Think it's a brilliant boiler and with a 12 year guarantee is difficult to beat.

“5 year evaluation”

★★★☆☆

written by Prestonww261 on 23/08/2018

The Intergas is probably the best boiler on the market for reliability & I don't quote for any other boiler. We always do our registrations on-line and make sure its confirmed nowadays, because like many others (even though we are Platinum installers) we have had lost registrations in the past that Intergas will not honour, which as Installers has put us in the position of carrying out their warranty work free of charge inc the cost of parts, so we can keep our good reputation with our customer. So even though we love their boilers we don't rate Intergas very highly as a company. (that said we don't rate many boiler manufacturers very highly, TBH most of them have stitched us up one time or another) The external expansion vessel can be an issue so we try to fit the external expansion kit wherever practical, it makes for a neater job. I'd suggest that the job you get is in many ways down to the installer, clean the system up and fit a filter (or scale reducer in hard water areas) and you should have little trouble, decent installers will always have a look 1st if your boiler fails to make sure its not controls related

Hi Prestonww261, I intend to have an Intergas combi installed, probably eco rf 30. Could you explain the issue with the external expansion vessel please?

Reading the review, there is no two external expansion vessels. I assume he has an issue with the internal jig which comprises the expansion vessel. This is the great thing with Intergas boilers, there are solutions to any scenario, unlike other boiler manufacturers.

“DANGEROUS DOMESTIC HOT WATER”

★☆☆☆☆

written by baytuna on 18/07/2018

In November 2017 I puchasd an Intergas compact hre36/40. When the central heating is on the hot water comes out at the same temperature. INTERGAS say that is normal and just allow the water to run until it has cooled down. Try telling that to a six year Customer service is rubbish, they do not reply to e-mails and are always "out of the office and willget back to you asap". Needless to say they never do. their catalogue shows a very neat compact boiler but it does not show the huge mounting frame fitted. The boiler is very good at what it does but the fact is the DHW problem is inherentand should have been fixed long ago I have just received a quote of £165 inc Vat to fit a tmperature control valve to fix the problem.

This is due to incorrect/poor advice from the installer or adjustment of temperature settings by the customer.

Making a meal out of what is a simple solution, reduce heating temperature to a maximum of 65°C. This will reduce the initial hot slug of water (if you can’t deal with running off that small amount) and it will increase heating efficiency, reduce cycling and wear and tear.

I have an Xtreme just fitted my water set to 55 degrees c and its plenty warm. The output for DHW is great and no slugs of boiling hot water what so ever. Always use an accredited Intergas installer they know what they are doing and will set it up perfect for your needs.

“Poor customer service and no reply to complaint.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Markvose on 15/06/2018

We purchased an Intergas boiler a year ago on the recommendation of our plumber. After a year the boiler developed a leak from the heat exchanger. After calling the company I was informed they had not received a warranty registration. I contacted my plumber who professionally installed the boiler. He assured me he posted the warranty card to Intergas. The plumber had his copy, the work had a building control certificate and he had copies of the boiler installation checklist and serial number etc. It is not clear if the warranty card was lost in the post or at Intergas or not registered correctly internally. After calling the sales rep and the service manager, both the plumber and myself have simply been told, cannot do anything to help resolve the issue. The only option was to send someone out at a minimum call out charge of £300 ! Almost 50% the cost of the boiler. I have many properties and my plumber installs regularly, neither of us would ever use Intergas again. As a final insult I wrote a complaint to the M.D. of Intergas, who could not even be bothered to reply or acknowledge my complaint. DO NOT PURCHASE A BOILER FROM INTERGAS.

After sending off the warranty card, you should have received confirmation directly from Intergas, this is the same with many if not all manufacturers. Intergas were well within their rights not to honour any warranty. I follow up my installs 3 weeks after registering the warranty to check that the customer has received confirmation. I’ve had Intergas attend the very few in warranty breakdowns thatbsome have my customers have experienced, they have been prompt and professional.

To date still no response to my complaint, nothing more to say ! Says it all about their customer service, do not care. Speaking to other plumbers, smaller Mfg such as Intergas will use any excuse to avoid taking responsibility for their product. I did not know I had to check that the post office did their job or that Intergas made an internal error in registering. I know now but I will be installing Worcester boilers in my new project, would not touch Intergas as I have no trust and the company do not care.

I got hooked on Intergas boilers when a colleague mentioned them to me a few years ago, since that day I have fitted many Intergas boilers and never had an issue with any of them.... NOW I DO NOT install any other make as reliability of plastic parts were an issue with the well known brands and that's why I jumped over to Intergas. The reliability and build quality is 2nd to none, warranties generous and if the customer wants to extend in the first year it's very economical at less than £200 for an additional 4 years parts & labour thereabouts. I was so impressed that I have the brand fitted at home and so do my family and friends, this I believe speaks volumes as the last thing you want at home is a broken boiler. After every instal I call the customer and ask if all is good with the heating and the usual response is, "The house has never been so warm and the hot water is so much better!" That's why I Only fit Intergas boilers, easy to instal, setup and maintain. If your in the market for a new boiler or an installer looking for a change i would fully recomend Intergas.

“Poor boiler and design”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 223Cooke on 26/05/2018

This boiler has no divertor valve so if the heatings been on and then we open a hot tap we het a gluge off water that's very very hot and can burn you. Also not a very nice looking boiler as well. After being told the Main heat exchanger water ways are so big that it'll never block or scale up yeah you guessed it my one scaled up. And now Intergas specify a water softener should be fitted. Not very impressed with the boiler or back up service.

No diverter valve is great, I’m always having to repair diverters.

Hot slug of water is down to a lack of a fine tuning.

Since when did a boiler look attractive? They’re pretty much all a white box.

Water Softener must be installed as per Part L of the Building Regulations if the water hardness is over 200ppm.

All Combi boilers send a slug of hot water to the tap if the heating has been in use because the heating operates at 70 degrees and hot water demand is only around 55 degrees. Just run the hot water until it is safe, around 20 seconds.
As for the heat exchanger becoming limescaled, all modern Combination boilers should have adequate limescale protection in hard water areas.
So the issues are not just Intergas borne, but across the whole industry.

“Awesome Boiler and back up. ”

written by Andy Townsend on 26/05/2018

This is boiler and company cannot be beaten. I have fitted Ideal, Baxi, Worcester and many more with no real issues except over complicated. I then came across Intergas from another engineer who said about them. I went along to there training course and was so impressed I started fitting them immediately. I have fitted ever since. They have took the boiler back to basics, simple but works to perfection. The design allows certain parts that often fail like a diverter valve or plate heat exchanger redundant. So less parts to go wrong. The boiler is also easy to strip, work on. So making any potential fixing quick and easy. That said I have one issue and Intergas had it fixed the following day. When I have rang with an issue they are spot on. The field engineers are even willing to pass out there own numbers. Never had that with any other manufacturers. I fitted one in my own house last year and the wife loves it. My gas bill was cut and electric to a small amount. What more can be said about that. Brilliant boiler just ask anyone who has the training and they have not looked back. Fit one today.

I have been installing Intergas for a few years and can honestly say I have not had a single issue or call back(can’t say the same about other brands starting with V and W). Superb flow rates, silent running and only 4 moving parts. After sales service has been second to none from the Intergas team. These are my favourite boiler to fit as I know the customer will get years of trouble free use.

i've been a heating installer and service engineer for 29 years and my go to brand is Intergas. I love the Intergas boiler range as it can match any situation you can find. The heat exchanger is a fantastic design that no other manufacturers have matched. what I really like is the no plate heat exchanger to block or diverter valve to fail. Hot water performance on the combi versions has always performed above expectations . Intergas were ahead of their rivals with the design of this boiler and on the rare occasion that we've needed a warranty call it's been handled with excellent service. called a failed fan in at 4pm and it was replaced by 10am the next morning , I think that's exceptionally good.

“Covers all options (domestically)”

★★★★★

written by JBPHS on 26/05/2018

If it’s gas fired and you need it to heat up water, Intergas should be your the brand to look at. The Rapids have changed very little in design for at least 10 years, since I’ve been involved with installing Intergas boilers. I used to work for a company who were warranty repair service agents for Intergas, this was great in 2 ways, firstly I could see what their common faults were and secondly I could see what Intergas required for the installation to conform with a warranty repair. In terms of faults, the main faults we were called out to were those created by the installer. Don’t get me wrong, I have had the occasional faulty component but this has been repaired quite promptly, especially when you take into account that this winter Ideal we’re taking up to 9 days to respond warranty to calls! In terms of knowing what Intergas look for in an installation to be repaired under warranty, it’s no different to what it says in their installation manuals. So down to the boilers themselves, I mainly fit their flagship model the ECO RF. Coupled with Honeywell Opentherm controls, they can be very efficient in heating mode. In hot water mode, there is no plate heat exchanger (that blocks easily with magnetite on the heating side and limescale on the domestic side). There is only the water pressure sensor that’s a plastic water carrying part. The construction of all Intergas heat exchangers are fantastic as they only have copper in contact with the water. This is much better than Aluminium in terms of the water chemistry when trying to reduce corrosion within the heating circuit. The other reason why these boilers are fantastic is that the installer can easily fine tune the boiler settings to suit the property and installation, optimising the operation and efficiency of the boiler. This must not be done by the customer however as installers who have attended Intergas training courses and other Intergas orientated courses fully understand what these settings do. My current boiler (an old Worcester before they were Worcester Bosch) will be replaced this year for an ECO RF. Don’t be frightened by the lack of knowledge about Intergas within the UK market. All I’m receiving from my customers are positive comments and news of reduced gas bills. So if you require a new boiler, find yourself an installer who fit Intergas boilers, you won’t be disappointed.

“So Good I fitted one on my home”

★★★★★

written by SussexGasMan on 25/05/2018

Reviews are helpful but sometimes subjective. As with any boiler, if installed correctly, should give you years of trouble free operation, the reality is there are so many variables in old heating systems that modern boilers don't cope well with. I'm a gas engineer that has seen the evolution of boilers from the 1980s to the latest incarnations. I've installed across the range of manufacturers, but I was so impressed with the Intergas Boilers and their inique and progressive solutions where other manufacturers couldn't match that I replaced a 5 year old boiler in our new home with an Intergas Boiler as soon as we moved in. If your gas engineer recommends an Intergas Boiler to you over a Vailant, Worcester Bosch, Baxi, Ideal or any other manufacturer, take note, he's offering the best solution along with competitive pricing

written by Norfolkboilerman on 25/05/2018

These boilers are brilliant. Very little moving parts so less to go wrong in the future. I was installing Worcester until I went on the intergas course. Since installing intergas I have had 1 fault (in over 100 boilers) it was fixed next day. When I was installing Worcesters we have a lot more faults. Yes they are not as heard of as the big brands bit this boiler is far better. Just research them and come to your senses. Install intergas. Norfolkboilerman

“Fantastic Boiler, Highly Recomend.”

written by CrawleyGasEngineer on 25/05/2018

Intergas boilers are very special in their own right, I have read some of the negative reviews and can’t believe what I’m reading, I’ve been fitting boilers now for over 22 years, I fit all makes and models, but I can honestly say that Intergas are considered among gas Engineers to be one of the best boilers on the market, and after care and warranties are fantastic. I’ve personally fitted loads and have never had an issue with the service department or the warranty call outs. You can’t always trust everything that you read, so please do some research before reading the negative reviews and deciding against Intergas and going with an inferior boiler. If fitted correctly the likes of the Intergas eco rf and hre will save you money on your bills, and if used with the correct types of controls that modulate the burner then you are going to be sitting pretty for 15years easy. Sometimes these new boilers Breakdown due to poor installation, poor system design or poor water quality, please look into magnetic system filters, decent air separators, Electrolytic Scale reducers and load compensating controls which use the digital communication protocol Opentherm. Whiteout thes and a decent Flush and Chemical Inhibitor your System will be fighting a battle that it can win from day 1.

I have two Intergas boilers. It's a risk no matter what you buy. Just look down the reviews of gas fitters that have been highly rated by customers on web sites such as Checkatrade. You will notice that whereas there are many good reviews given by customers of the tradesman, an alarming number of boilers seem to require changing. Some tradesmen seem to do little else. This was my own experience even when I was trying to get a new Intergas boiler repaired. Virtually every tradesman had his own favourite boiler that would somehow be better than the one that I had just had installed. I had the same experience with previous boilers. The knee jerk reaction seems to be that whatever is wrong with your boiler it needs to be replaced. Now with regard to Intergas boilers specifically, my thoughts are as follows: I still think that the design logic behind them appears absolutely sound. But - and this is a big "But", make absolutely certain that the company that installs whatever boiler you choose, can, in practice, support the product themselves. What you need is not just a nice man making a promise. Look at the situation objectively. If the individual installer is not available when you need him (or her), then does the company that you are doing business with, have other trained staff who can support the product. In other words, avoid a one man band. If possible, use Intergas themselves for as much as possible especially the annual gas safety check that is required to maintain the warranty. I really hope that Intergas has grown in size in the UK now, but you should check this for yourself. My most recent experience with Intergas was excellent.

I've worked as a service and breakdown engineer since Nov 06, working for over 6 years on the governments Warm Front Grant scheme. At the time I was servicing between 1000 and 1600 boilers per year, so I saw good variation of what makes and models had been installed under the grant, Ideal, Worcester, Vailant, Remeha, Baxi, Glow Worm were the more popular, and in later years I even came across a Viessmann. However I never came across an Intergas until I had to do research for replacing my own Ideal Isar that had died after 5 years out of the factory in October of 2006. I had an Intergas Combi HRE fitted by an Intergas approved engineer, and to this day all I've done is service it yearly and it's worked perfectly. I've attended a local plumbers merchants when the Intergas Rapid was being brought out and was very impressed with it, as it seems to be the same bits inside as the more expensive HRE model, just laid out in a smaller and more compact casing. The expansion vessel swings out nicely to gain access to other components behind, which makes it nice to work on, which is good for the engineer, and as it's so reliable then as customer, that should make you happy with it. Also something which I've not mentioned, the Intergas boilers are extremely quiet, when I first had mine installed, I was putting my ear to the casing to hear it was on. I was very impressed and still am. I'd advise one in a heart beat. My father had a Vaillant installed under the Warm Front Grant in 2006, and when that boiler dies, there will be an Intergas replacing it. As he said below, have an Intergas approved engineer do the work.

My customer is after an intergas boiler. He has a large house and would need a 40kw boiler. As they only do the 40kw as a system boiler I'm reluctant to fit it as I prefer the pump to be on the flow. The ground floor is underfloor heating and the 1st/2nd are rads and towel rails. Would advise putting in a low loss header (intergas don't do one) and let the system boiler circulate round the header and system, then pump the flow? Ideas would be grateful!

Sadly my extensive answer was lost on the very unstable web site. I'll keep it simple this time round. The product is excellent and I have two Intergas boilers. The aftersales is irresponsible at the "Helpdesk" and worthless thereafter. They have no engineers and just as the job out onto the internet in the hope that someone will pick it up eventually. They will not make appointments themselves as they have no engineering staff to instruct. Expect to wait five days just to make an appointment. I have been through this many times. It really is as bad as it gets from this tiny UK company which Intergas in Holland refuses to get involved with when it comes to customer complaints or required support.

PaulShears is totally wrong. Intergas have had an internal engineer team for almost a year now and almost all breakdowns in England and Wales are attended by them within 48 hours. They are due to take on engineers in Scotland in the very near future. Oh and the U.K. Company is totally owned by the parent company in Holland. They pay everyone's wages!

My Atmos HE32 combi is showing fault 3 fan. I can get replacement for £200 but I'm not sure if this is the fault or not and don't want to spend £200 for nothing. I can't find any engineer in Scotland who will come and check it for me. What should I do?

You could just take the front cover off and see if it is turning or even feel if the flue gasses are being blown out of the pipe outside. When did it last get cleaned inside as part of a service, some just hoover the cabinet out but I mean clean inside the fire box/heat exchanger. If this has been done within two years then it probably is just the fan,or fan connector.

Does the system boiler have a built in bypass?

No I don't think it does, although mine is a Atmos which is a re badged Intergas but slightly different, you can build it in or leave a bathroom radiator fully open without tvr,but I think on the newer ones they want you to build it in. If you buy the correct 3 way valve you can wire the tank stat direct to the boiler, and the room stat direct to boiler and two wire hot water priority honeywell three way valve directly to the boiler. That means you can set a temperature for hot water and a temperature for central heating,so when the cylinder calls for heat it can be 60 degrees and when c/h calls for heat it can be set to 40 degrees if you want. When both stats have cut heat off the boiler goes in standby until a call for heat. Works great if you want a low central heating temp but still need a cylinder heating up to 60 degrees.

In response to stevegrass777 where he states his Atmos boiler is a rebadged Intergas, I'd be very dubious about that. I was on an Intergas course in 2014, and I am now one of their approved engineers. One thing said by the course instructor that did stay in my mind was that they have never built boilers for anyone else, period. Both Worcester and Vaillant have approached Intergas to request using the Intergas heat exchanger in their boilers for a commission fee, but Intergas refused this, and said they only make boilers for themselves, and they would not put their technology in another manufacturers boiler. I was also informed that Worcester Bosch later tried to buy out Intergas, but the owner of Intergas politely informed Worcester Bosch that the company was not for sale. So don't think that Intergas make boilers and rebadge them for anyone else, I'm pretty sure they don't.

They rebadge them as "Flow" boilers
