“Do not buy these boilers”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MayaEaton2 on 03/11/2016

My plumber was a gold star Intergas plumber. He advised me to get one of what he said were great new modern efficient boilers. I took his advice. After one month it broke down, he did not know how to fix it. I had to get another plumber from intergas. After a year it started cutting off and the Intergas helpline said it was because it was scaled up. The plumber had not recommended a descaler, which I believe I needed on this type of boiler. He stopped answering my calls, and other plumbers did not know about this boiler. Even flushing it out and adding a descaler may not help. I feel like I have just been ripped off and may just have to rip my boiler and and fit a standard one.

We've had problems with ours too, they say it wasn't registered by the installer and refuse to help. I've left a review on Trustpilot. Please do the same.

Seems to me that is was the installer at fault here and not the boiler, Intergas boilers are very good but like all boiler must be installed correctly

So you've given the boiler one star because your installer was rubbish? These are by far the easiest boilers on the market too service and repair, if your installer couldn't work out how to fix it he shouldn't be fitting any boilers. As for needing scale protection, all boiler manufacturers require this, not just Intergas

It is true these boilers maybe easier to service and repair. However this is only for intergas qualified engineers. For example I rang round six local firms and they would not come out as they did not know about them and would only look at standard boilers. That is inconvenient and more expensive.
These boilers are also more likely to suffer from scaling than other conventional boilers. I only found this out after it had happened to me
The intergas engineers are given incentives to sell these boilers and will say how fantastic they are and defend them on line religiously. They do have advantages, but also have their problems. Do your research and take your choice. Next time I am going with more conventional brand with a ten year guarantee.

If your a gassafe engineer you should be able to work on any domestic boiler. Intergas boilers work the same as all other condensing boilers but with fewer parts. And all manufactures give incentives for fitting there boilers. If your in a hard water area without a scale reducer this would have happened to any new boiler but worse because other boilers water ways are only 4mm wide not 12mm like on the intergas.
