“My disgraceful bathroom”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Cooperi1990 on 19/01/2016

I chose Tesco because I thought there would plenty of comeback from a big company. Wish I had never heard of them, they installed a shower which is nearly foot high, the tiles on the floor need replacing and when my toilet broke, I was told moving parts are not guaranteed. I wanted a shower because of an arthritic hip and I was having trouble getting in and out the bath. The shower was installed two years ago and the whole bathroom needs replacing. To anyone reading this, I say do not touch them with a bargepole.

“AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE”

written by MPA_BRACKLEY on 09/05/2015

Had a new bathroom installed March 14, thought it was odd that you do not get a comprehensive breakdown of prices/parts. In september we went on holiday and the overly complicated flush system in the Roca toilet decided to continually fill up and empty. Fortunatley a neighbour was popping in and out looking after our pets and managed to turn the supply to the toilet off. We have historically paid £25 per month water charges - we are now paying £44 a month - god knows how much water was wasted. We had the original installer back and he "tweeked it", but it failed again days later. So we turned the supply off. This then dragged on until December with Tesco promising to get it sorted. They said they were having problems with their supplier (Mark Two) and they would get back to us in Feb 15. They then sent a standard letter saying Mark Two had gone into administration and basically "tough"! As our contract was with Tesco we quote consumer legislation with them and they agreed to pay for parts and installation. They wanted to pay the installer directly, but as he is still owed over £13,000 he wanted money up front. This was all finally done in March 15. Copies of all receipts were sent to Tesco and they will only pay for the parts and not the labour as they maintain we agreed to get a "friend" to fix the problem. Considering we spent over £8,000 on the work and have not been able to use the toilet since Oct 14 this is poor in the extreme - my advice DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER THEM FOR ONE MINUTE......

“Horror Show from Tesco Finest Bathrooms”

★☆☆☆☆

written by AlianaArsenault171 on 27/12/2014

Engaged Tesco Finest Bathrooms to completely renovate two bathrooms - paid top money for it (the quote was twice as much as some of their competitors) because we felt that the brand Tesco was going to give us a better quality finish. To our horror, while we dealt with Tesco during the initial process, we were quickly handed off to Mark Two (a subcontractor to Tesco) for the actual work. It has been more or less two and half years but all of this time has been a hell for us. Uneven tiles, leakages in both bathrooms, incompetent and unreliable Mark Two, and lots lots more. We must have had 500+ contacts with Mark Two via email, phone etc. The situation now is that one of our bathrooms is half ripped apart waiting for a fitter to come and fix it. Mark Two has now gone into administration. We called Tesco and were told that the earliest they can get back to us is in feb - we only have one functioning bathroom. The other one has been dug up since August and with no end in sight.... It is such a nightmare with Tesco. We have been nice so far just hoping that things will get fixed and we can move on. However, it just does not seem like the ordeal is coming to an end.

“NOT AS GOOD AS I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE.”

★★★☆☆

written by Avery397 on 06/12/2014

I had a new complete bathroom installed in the summer, the fitters were friendly and i thought did a good job, but now the toilet cistern has come away from the wall, i got my brother in law to look at it , as he's a plumber , and he couldn't believe it, it was fixed to the wall with sticky pads only , i phoned the tesco hotline after i heard they had split from mark 2 , and they said it was for unfinished work or people who had payed to have it installed , but now can't because of the split, they said take it up through the warranty , but i said ok, but who's doing the work then, and they then said phone up december 18th , when a decision will be made to what's happening, so in the meantime i bought some super glue and stuck back to the wall, until i contact them on dec 18th.

After getting a new bathroom fitted Tesco and their partners Mark 2 have parted ways leaving work unfinished and warranties at risk . Great service from Tesco until the hand over to Mark 2 for the actual work . Customer service from them is COWBOY style . Tesco now have their reputastion in tatters once more for dealing with this dodgy business . Cant wait for this to reach the press.

“Shockingly bad”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 21/10/2014

Terrible experience. Initial install took months rather than weeks. Installer arrived late, left early and frequently took days off 'sick'. The quality of items is much poorer than expected and led to believe by the designer. Similar to cheap high street. The toilet is small and regularly gets blocked. Customer service was very poor - I submitted my snag list multiple times to multiple people, all of whom failed to get our bathroom finished. Never buy a bathroom suite that you have not seen in person - the digital representations are inaccurate. We wish we had been to a bathroom outlet and chose the items personally. Unfortunately I cannot recommend Tesco Finest bathroom.

“A beautiful transformation”

★★★★★

written by on 17/10/2014

I have always had a separate toilet and bathroom but, realising that the bath is rarely used, except for climbing in and out to have a shower, we decided to knock the two rooms into one and have a walk in shower. I have to say, we are delighted with the professionalism of the Tesco designer and the frequent contact of our Tesco project manager. The fitter arrived on time every day, left everything tidy after work each day and has done an exceptional job. Thank you to all involved, it really is beautiful.

“Awful experience.”

★★☆☆☆

written by pennyfam on 06/10/2014

Were told installation would take 5 days. It took 4 months. The first attempted installation was a disgrace. They subcontract and if they don't have a strong presence in the area they struggle. We got nothing short of chancers on the first installation. The saga to get a satisfactory conclusion was protracted and stressful. I was not interested in compensation or money back, just wanted what I paid for. Got their in the end. And now chasing my club point award. So technically not complete....

“Bad beyond belief AVOID at all Costs”

First of all the only tesco about this is the logo on the brochure and the false promise of club card points.. You are lead to believe you are buying a bespoke all inclusive quality product with superior service and finish.. This couldn't be further from the truth.. This is a company called MARK TWO HOMES based near Manchester.. Horrendous customer service, poor quality goods, awful finish. long delays ( 2 day job takes 5 weeks), missing items,.. There is nothing Positive I could say about the whole experience. TESCO need to take a long hard look at their involvement with this company it's their brand that is tarnished by honest reviews such as this .. This has got to be the worst company I have ever dealt with. Huge mistake. Nothing but a bunch of over priced cheats Would be more than happy to speak to a Tesco Manager about this review... Oh wait they are not interested!... Don't expect Tesco to show any interest whatsoever when things go wrong

“Tesco not so fine bathrooms”

★★☆☆☆

written by KennaFinch on 17/09/2014

We decided to get our en suite updates & saw the Tesco Finest Bathroom advert & gave them a call. Well good start or not as An appointment was made for 2 days later. The salesman appeared to know what he was talking about & generate us a plan of his ideas for our small en suite. We had not looked anywhere else & so had no real idea of up to date prices. I must admit the price was far more than we had wanted to pay but then came the discounts & hard sell. There was a discount for this & that but then came the crunch we had to make up on mind there & then to get the so called discounts. There were no brochures to look at fittings or tile colours. The salesman made such a point of telling us about their excellent service & the fact that it would be a complete worry free service with the result of a fantastic bathroom. Like fools we believed what he has said & thought that a worry free installation would be excellent along with the lifetime guarantee that he spoke about. The order & deposit was taken quickly. Then we waited & waited. We has a 7 day cooling off period where we could cancel. However our samples of the tiles took 2 weeks & 4 phones calls to arrive by which time the 7 days had passed. The salesmen knowledge of the tiles proved inadequate as instead of 2 colours which would blend nicely there were 3!!! It took us at least 8 phones calls to get the tiles sorted. We were offered an alternative plan for the tiles & told that that would be cheaper!!! Then we got a revised pricing which was over £1000 more.!!! Our so called bathroom co ordinator was next to useless- did not return calls etc & gave us no service at all. The installer that we were supposed to have failed to make contact with us for 2 weeks. & then suddenly we were given another name. That person did make contact & came to check everything out. That did shown quickly. Anyway after getting a revised price for the installation a start date was agreed. The materials arrived the week before & it was apparent that the toilet was far too big for our small en suite. It took lots of phone Calls to our co ordinator that were not answered & she failed to find us a smaller toilet that was more suited to our small room. Eventually we had to find & order a replacement ourselves. The wrong tile trim had been sent & the installer said that he did not need & could not use the large shower pump that the planner had ordered. So there were items to be taken back to the depot. Our co ordinator again failed to tell us when they would be collected & it was sheer luck that we were home when Mark 2 arrived to collect the items. Then we had to wait another almost 3 weeks to find our the amount that would be credited back for unused items, The only good thing about the whole process was the installer who was excellent- prompt- polite & very clean & tidy worker. We did end up with a good job from him. The planners knowledge was poor as we ended up with receiving a too large toilet, incorrect tile colouring- he told us that the basin had a single tap at the rear of the basin when in fact it was at the end. The mirror is far too big & does not go on automatically when we entered the room as he said. So my recommendations would be avoid Tesco Finest Bathrooms like the plague. I had thought that hard selling had been banned but it still goes on with them. Their products are very expensive & there is no itemised list so it would be impossible to attempt to price match their bathrooms. It would have been do much easier & cheaper to have looked at the products in a showroom, chosen them ourselves & employed a fitter to complete the work. By the way Mark two take payment for the work before it is started.

I can relate to everything you say. We had a nightmare when we had our en suite fitted by Tesco finest bathrooms/ Mark two. Unfortunately we still bear the scars with the tiles lifting off the floor and pipe work that looks like a 5yr old had fitted it. How are they getting away with it?

A 5 star installation was carried out on our bathroom, from the delivery of materials to the final stage of grouting the tiles.Hardworking fitters, who worked long days, and even weekends to get the job completed as soon as possible even when we were having a kitchen fitted at the same time with different workmen. After every day the bathroom was left clean and tidy for us to use during the night by friendly, and polite workmen.I would definitely recommend to anyone thinking of having a new bathroom fitted.

“Utterly appalling - AVOID ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ieSampson228 on 09/09/2014

We are having an appalling experience with Mark Two, who sell themselves as Tesco Finest Bathrooms. Having paid nearly £9k in mid April, five months on we don't have a finished bathroom and the work that has been done is sub-standard. During installation several design flaws became apparent, which are now having to be rectified; Mark Two have sent the same wrong parts on two occasions and we still don't have the correct ones; the taps ordered don't work with our water system (another design flaw) so we had to research and re-order new ones ourselves on-line; and the installers have done their work in a shoddy way, which has resulted in damage to the ceiling below. We feel utterly ripped off and cheated. We were sold this bathroom on the basis that it would be high-quality, had a lifetime guarantee and that the installation would be smooth and trouble-free. So far they have failed on all counts. Avoid this company.

“Such a shame”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 26/08/2014

Tesco Finest Bathroom - Great quality tiles and fittings but the most appalling fitter and quality of fitting, went with this service as wanted all done in one go, and paid a massive premium for this, very very very expensive bathroom for what we ended up with. The fitter did not listen to instructions, and has installed a bathroom where if anything goes wrong it will need to be torn apart even after being asked to fit access panels. Had to tear out the work done twice as couldn't use a measuring tape. Has left edges that are sharp enough to cut and catch on everything. Had to come back 3 times to actually complete the work that was supposedly included, originally left holes in the walls and incomplete plastering Caused a leak in the hot water tank and then lied to try and make it at our cost, happily had just had it serviced so had proof wasn't leaking. The seal on the bath lasted a month. The bath taps are fitted with so little space around them that turning them on is difficult. So all in all Tesco provided a good design service and quality products but if these are not fitted to a high standard then all of that counts for nothing, so they really need to vet their fitters with more care and actually inspect the work they do on completion, after several calls and the fitter returning 3 times I gave up in actually getting the high standard service I had paid for. I have since had two plumbers come out, both completely flabbergasted as the cost of the bathroom for the end product received, both saying it should have been half that price, disappointing.

From the planning to the installation everything was spot on. The items were delivered when they said they would be. The installer came and talked us through the timescale of what we could expect each day and how he would minimalise any disruption to us. We also had a personal customer services officer who called to make sure everything was as we were expecting it to be. The installer was on time every day and each day would make sure he left everywhere clean and tidy before he left. We are so pleased with our new bathroom and the workmanship of the installer. We definitely would recommend Tesco Finest Bathrooms.

I have just read glowing reviews about Tesco Finest Bathrooms. Why, why, why has my experience of Tesco Finest Bathrooms been a complete shambles? I've not got what I ordered, the shower leaks and the toilet cistern doesn't flush properly, plus lots of other disasters. We are now on DAY 61 and it's still not finished. I am so angry and upset about it all, as it cost me a lot of money and has been very stressful.

I am very sorry to read about the issues you have gone through. I had a bathroom installed by Tesco/Mark II in November 2012 & have only recently had the issues resolved - alost 18 months later. (I have written a review on this website). I would contact them. You will see that she responds to complaint reviews. With your surname and postcode. I have found her really helpful in getting the remedial work done. Mark II have stalled, periodically, in getting our work finished, but by contacting Amy the work progressed quickly. Unfortunately, for us we have had to have the whole bathroom gutted and refitted due to the many issues encountered. Currently,I'm in the process of trying to get compensation - another stressful trial in itself. I wish you luck in getting your issues resolved. Contact them and keep strong. It is stressful, but you are in the right and Tesco should provide what they have promised their customers: The 'finest' bathrooms.

Keep complaining and eventually someone from head office will appear and note all the problems. We had to have the complete en suite done again with tiles and everything plus repair all the wrongs in the bathroom and fix an under floor pipe that was broken by them because it was not fitted properly. They did fix it but we were left with mess on the ceiling and had to paint it. Sorry but keep on phoning them until you get what you want. We to spent an awful lot of money with them and would strongly NOT recommend them to anyone. Good luck.

All I can suggest you do is talk to Mark 2, ask which supplier they got the product from and then write to the manufacturer, they will do all they can, but don't hold your breath. I've even had the Manager from Mark 2 come and visit my bathroom, and also the rep from BAL who supply the grout, only to be told to use a spray bleach to get the grout clean but it doesn't work, the grout is grotty and looks awful next to white tiles. My bathroom was installed last June and it has been a big disappointment, so I gave up and feel very bitter about the whole subject I'm not getting anywhere, the bathroom altogether cost me £7,500 and it was zero rated VAT too. So it should have been over £10k.

We had an even worse disaster of being with a bathroom toilet that kept blocking for months. However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel and persevere as we eventually got ours finished to the standard we expected. We wrote to every member of the Tesco Main Board about the devaluation of their Finest Brand Name. Tesco subcontract the work and the subcontractor then also subcontracts, but it was only after we made such a complaint we got the problem fixed and with compensation. They had used the wrong fittings and then just tiled over the problem. Actually we are now very pleased with the bathroom.Sad that Tesco still seem not to care about their so called Finest brand name to stop these problems in the first place. They are so easy to prevent. Best of luck

I wrote ultimately to the Chief Executive of Tesco plc to complain about my bathroom installation. I received a reply from someone in Tesco customer services in (I think) Dundee, who said that there was nothing that Tesco plc could do about it because the work is all done by a separate company,Mark II. I was surprised by that because I thought that Tesco plc wouldn't let another company use their brand name without taking some responsibility for the quality of what was delivered. Tesco customer services did, however, pass my letter on to someone in Mark II, and I think my complaint got more attention as a result of routing it via Tesco plc. It still took ages to get sorted out though.
