Glad It's Free
Visited Turner centre last week . Wouldn't recommend a visits. Very little on display, for such a huge looking building I was expecting a lot more to view
Totally out of keeping with its surroundings . We did have a very nice walk around margate old town. Lots of interesting art shops.ect.
Love At The Turner Gallery
A supen bonus for Margate, right next to the sea the gallery offers excellent views out as well as inside. I feel this is worth a mention, the staff were knowledgable and helpful. All of whom could not have been more pleasant. A big well done. After the gallery tour we had tea and cakes at the cafe. . A wonderful afternoon had by all.
Well Worth A Visit To Margate
Living nearby, we have been watching the proposals and building of this for a long time.
We paid a visit in early May.
Knowing the area we parked a five-minue walk away for £1.50 but you can park on the door-step for £6.50 if you prefer.
It's a lovely building, light and airy, and the gardens will be most attractive when completed.
It's certainly well-named 'contemporary'. There are currently works by six artists, plus one Turner and one Webb. These paintings are in a corridor so it must be said that you don't get a long-enough sight=line to view them properly.
The other works, installations really, are housed over several rooms and several of them are designed specifically for the gallery. Mirrors, thousands of beads, sculptures.
We then went to the restaurant for lunch. Well worth a visit, good value for money, mainly local ingredients, fast and efficient waitress service serviced on a sunny terrace (or you can eat indoors if you prefer).
We shall definitely be back.
