“Awsome! Don't believe the critics”

★★★★☆

written by consafo80 on 14/07/2011

If you where to believe the critics this is one of the worse films ever made but I can confirm that the critics have got it so wrong it's almost shocking. The last time the critics got a verdict this wrong would of been Daredevil. Okay firstly if you hate comic books and action films this isn't going to convert you. But if your a fan of the genre you should like this and if your a fan of the Green Lantern comics your going to love it.

“More a Spiderman then a Batman”

★★★☆☆

written by reviewkitten on 27/06/2011

Green Lantern is based upon the DC comics about an intergalactic squadron tasked with protecting the universe from evil. Ryan Reynolds is Hal Jordan, a maverick fighter pilot who risks everything to win but faces his greatest test when faced with the responsability of becoming a green latern. The beginning of the film feels like a re-hash of Top Gun, with bird fights and flashbacks threatening to overwhelm Reynolds as he flies a fighter jet. He drives a hot rod car, sleeps with nameless women and generally shirks responsability. When he is choosen to become a green latern this all changes. The rest of film plays out as you would expect with no real surprises, Peter Sarsgaard continues his movie career playing odd balls but unfortunately this time his character is a little too one dimensional. The action scenes are pretty good with touches of humour dotted in but it seems this film has become victim to the editing process as gaping holes in the backstory are left out leaving us to guess at some of the characters relationships and past interactions making the film feel slightly unfinished. It's much better than I had expected (the green originally seemed to overwhelm in the trailer). Mark Strong is great as Sinestro and Reynolds manages to just about pull this off without it seeming cheesy. Worth a see in the cinema if you're a huge comic book geek otherwise I'd say wait and watch on Blu-ray.
