The accountancy software / website is very good and easy to use when you know how and keeps tabs of all your incoming and outgoings all under package.

I have been contracting for over 8 years now and I have used some of the biggest names out there...So when I went looking for an accountant I had some very specific criteria that I wanted fullfilled as follows:

1) Good and Prompt communication: I tend to ask a lot of questions about my taxes and liabilities.

2) A personal accountant: I got fed up of being dealt with by assistants, and only going to the accountant when an issue occurs which happens with the larger accountants - come on you pay a premium, so I expect the best.

3) Automated service, i personally am fed up with all the paper work and BS that accountants put me through, I mean what am I paying them for??!!

4) Pro-active advise on how to save money - I mean in the end I can do all the HMRC papoer work myself, I'm not paying an accountant to shuffle through some papers, but to give me advise on how I can maximize my intake.

They have ticked all the above, I'll make this short in a cons and pro approach

Pro: 1) everything is automated through the IrisOpenbooks software which is a HIGHLY recommended accountancy software, you can even download an app for appstore and the moment you incur an expense, enter it then take a photo with your phone of the receipt and bam !! you're done entry and receipt stored in the cloud you can forget about it!!! no keeping those nasty receipts for 6 crappy years!! it calculates how much you need to withdraw, your VAT, your corp tax - it's literally a wonderful piece of software that I personally can not do without now !!

One of its main features is that you can even submit your VAT from within the software! I'm just about to submit my first return and I was astounded, the software had calculated everything - and I did my calculations and was ready to submit from within the software but hey - they insist that they check it and give me advise on it, very good.

2) You get a 1 to 1 accountant that in my first 2 months I hammered them with 2-3 phone calls a day asking them about the software how to use it ( in addition to their training ) and about how to effectively manage my company...also they focus on how you've been trading giving you advise on the way, not to mention the quarterly review they give you !

3) very Friendly staff - and if you can bargain well, you can get a good deal with them ! go visit them, they encourage it and I actually wanted to see them, apart from other large corporations that charge you to meet your accountant these guys were just great - even gave me a Parker pen when I joined :oD

4) very reasonable price : there are no hidden costs, you don't return in the end and find that they don't cover self assessment or VAT etc.. the price you pay is all there is to pay - even so I kept on arguing with the poor sales chap there until I got the deal I wanted, I genuinely felt sorry for him but I got a good deal for my money :) don't be shy to haggle with them !!! in the end the service you get for your money is top notch - you may find cheaper ones out there, but the service I got in return was well worth it.

Cons:

1) there's not much to complain about to be honest, except that they don't do any investment type accounting - they said to me they have another division that does shares and forex etc... but hey, even so they didn't mind giving me advise on how to do my own trading !

All round I highly recommend them !

Plan IT has been all about providing value added services. There are tons of accounting firms existing in London today and all claim to be different but this firm has something going for them. They have qualified accountants with very good soft skills. They translate complex accounting yterms into something that is easy to understand by their customers.

So far I have no complaints from them as they have provided me valuable advice at every stage of my contracting career.
