i bought a ajs dd125e 07 plate this bike have been nothing but a star for me only on problem about the bike is rust. when i first had the bike it would only pull me about 45 mph and im 8 stone so i put high gear radio on it and now its pulling me 70 mph a bit of bottom lost but that nothing not a problem i got egr vales on the bike my next thing to do with it is to put a waterproof k&n and up jet the pin and take off the egr vales and blank them over mine a twin joined so i cut the joined bit of and welded the points up so it nice and air tight and put harly Davidson exhaust manifold on it thinking off getting a complete exhaust system or taking out the baffles. and see where that takes me its a really reliable peace of work along long as you keep tlcing it perfect for a 17 year old im 18 years old ive had the bike just over year and not a single problem passed mot twice without a fail need a new back Tyre but its me first new Tyre since i bought it and again the only one pabulum i got is rust but a really strong bike and enough room for a 250 engine. got to give it 4.5 score rating brilliant

“Ajs Daytona 2010 ”

I have a 2010 Ajs Daytona in red . It's a fantastic bike ,I'm 6 feet and a mature 52 year old rider who has returned to riding after a long absence . When I first got the bike it was 4 years old but I had a wee problem with the lack of power ,this was sorted by removing the carb and giving it a good clean with carb cleaner . I thoroughly recommend this bike, as it looks like and rides like a much bigger bike ,also the build quality is fantastic from Ajs ,yes I know it's made in China but it's not like the other 125s on the market wether it be from China or Japan . In a nutshell this is the best 125 cruiser Just for info - Johnny pag from America does the same bike it's called the Malibu and Leonart from Spain does the same bike also-

“It is what it is - good for the price”

★★★★☆

written by Alun1954 on 24/11/2014

Have owned my ajs for a year now. Bought it at 600m. A few niggly problems, mostly to do with poor build. Carb air inlet rubber needed tightening for instance. I have used it almost every day since, clocking up a further 3000 miles. It has never let me down. It is not fast (max 70 on a dual carriageway). Very steep hills (cotswolds) require going down to second sometimes (I am 15 stone). Have done a mix of commuting and long journeys (greater than 100m). The bike is very comfortable to ride due to the seat padding, shape and position. A 100+ mile journey leaves the rear a bit numb. But its doable. Torque is quite good. Basically you can leave it in 4th and 5th for most manoeuvres. Brakes are effective but not savage. Fuel economy seems reasonable. But as this id the first bike I have ridden in 45 years I have no comparison. All in all I would buy it again knowing what I know now. Its not a high quality Japanese bike. But it is worh the price you pay.

Ok I bought my AJS DD125e Mk3 Brand new 2014. The day I drove it a away from the shop I couldn't get that much over 30 mph. I went up a hill and it did 10 mph. I phoned the shop and they said this was acceptable being a 125cc. I have owned 125cc motorbikes in the past and I could easy do at least 45 mph uphill. I explained that a Duel Carriage way 10 mph seems dangerous to me, so he said bring it back. On the way to the shop I was doing 30 mph noticed it was getting worse then found out the back brake was on, locked up had to wait for it to cool down. Took it back to shop and they released it and said this is why it was going so slow. Then took away and back brake was working but still 10 mph up hill. Speedo fell off then, took back and haven't had it back since. Been there for 3 weeks, so far he has changed the spark plugs, leads, plugs, diaphragm on carb, new carburettor, CDI. None of these made any difference the mechanic went up hill and 10mph. Now they are telling me they are changing the coils and if it doesn't fix it then I will have a new bike. I wonder if I have a new bike it will do the same thing. I shall update everyone about this as soon as I know.

I bought this bike in March 2014 with 1000 miles on the clock so far it has given me no trouble.i had to buy a new battery but apart from that have found the bike to be very reliable. The bike starts first time everytime I have only found one small problem it does not like a heave wind this does slow the bike down but it is only a 125cc.

“Great Bike!”

I have now had my Regal Raptor DD125E (08 Plate Limited Edition) for 7 weeks and already done 1000 miles. There are a few minor problems but nothing that cant be sorted a small leak on the shocks. It does make a bit of a rattle once over 50 but i geuss that is expected from such a small engine. I find it a very comfortable bike to ride, regardless of the huge turning circle but thats no problem. ive noticed it get very hot very quickly so just tend to cool it with a bit of water. Other then that I think that the Regal Raptor DD125E is a good looking stylish bike that has a very comfortable ride and causes a lot of attention where ever it goes.

“Dd125-e silver hawk 09”

written by London188 on 11/03/2014

I bought this bike about a year ago for £1000 from a ****** dealer in Sutton called stoppies. It had 3000km on the clock. Currently the odometer is sitting at 22000km. I'd like to say I've been riding 125s for a good while (6years now) and have owned Hondas, yamahas, and suzukis. This bike has by far been the best value for money purchase I've made out of all of them. Everybody saying this bike is bad have either been very unlucky (doubtful) or have little to no knowledge on how to maintain a motorcycle. Japanese 125s are built very well and happily go to 25k miles before they pack up due to neglect / thrashing them. The problem with novice riders buying Chinese made bikes is that they require ALOT of attention and care, something a lot of new riders lack. I ride my bike to and from work everyday (10-15miles) whatever the weather and apart from a handful of electrical problems due to laziness by the bloke who put it together it's been good as gold. Problems I've encountered: Rusty radiator leaking. Fixed by myself by swapping for a generic better quality one. Loose killswitch wire causing bike to cut out in rain (that was a real pain for a long time) easily fixed by me once i found the culprit. Eats chains! But I've never splashed out for an o ring alternative. Fork seals leaking Ignition barrel became loose. £50 quid from ajs for new one+fuel cap, steering lock and keys. 10 min job requiring anAllen key. Replaced plastic indicators/mirrors with polished metal alternatives. Chrome is thin. Good points: The engine/gearbox have worked great since the day I bought it.( it seems my 09 model is exempt from the gear linkage problems others have written about) Comfy, surprisingly smooth handling. Looks like a nice big bike Big tyres, never had a flat. Good thick paint as found on higher priced bikes. Sounds great in the top end of the rev range Loves long journeys Good quality switches for lights/starter Ajs have recently really upped their customer service. They have an official online shop with access to any parts required and their staff are very helpful on the phone. Next day delivery is standard. I really love this bike. I bought a Yzf r125 new in 2009 and truly prefer this mucky beast. It's not awkward to ride And it doesn't sound like a 4t lawnmower! I felt compelled to write this review because people who don't know what they are on about and cant manage basic fault finding get fed up and consequently rate this bike terribly. I think it's a lovely bike, rewarding to ride and own and expect it to give me another 20000kms without too many problems. Cheers guys.

I have owned it for nearly 3 months and riden it once without a problem. i fell off because of a worn back brake even after a full servicing, not the manufatures fault but after a month of dealing with the insurer i finaly got it back and put in in the garage for the brake repairs, after that i took it to work and it cut out in the middle of the busiest juntion in cambridge and wouldnt restart after about 5 minutes i managed to get it started but couldnt get it to go over ten miles an hour. later that night i tried to go home and again wouldnt go over ten miles an hour so for the second time i had to get it recovered it is currently in the garage waiting for friction pads on the clutch i imagin he will find more issues with the fuel injection. i broght it for 1200 from a trusted seller and since then i have spend nearly £1000 on repairs. if i could afford to lose it i would of set it on fire and leave it next to the road.Complete waste of money dont bother.

guys... I wish I had read this one before... I have the EXACT same problem! BRAND NEW BIKE - Done only 10 miles - dealer to home... and Bike is OBVIOUSLY over heating every 5 miles - leave it for 10-15 mins and it runs great.

From previous experience I suspect the pistons to be causing too much heat - mine is a water cooled version so there should be no reason for it to over heat in slow traffic or stationary... unless the heat is too much from within for it to sustain its idling / produce power...

any luck? any updates? would be highly appreciated

looking at Kiel2546 comment I think my bike also has the same problem. It starts no problem, I will ride it for about 5 miles and then all of a sudden no power. in 1st it struggles to even get to a speed where i can take my feet off the ground. i have stripped the carbs and cleaned them and changed the spark plugs and thought that would be the problem solved. i left it for a few days after doing the carbs and then tonight took it out. 5 miles in and guess what. no power. someone please help as im losing the will although i like the bike. thanks.

“DO NOT BUY THIS MOTORCYCLE”

written by Jordan117 on 29/12/2012

I bought my AJS Regal Raptor DD125E MK2 around two months ago for approximately £1,900. It has broken down four times in 200 miles firstly with gearbox problems. the gearbox, as the dealer put it, "collapsed on itself, and no-one at AJS can figure it out" The electrics soon followed, the bike would not start at all. The clutch followed shortly after. It now has problems with the electrics again and problems with the kill-switch and ignition/fuel intake. The dealer tried to charge me for "wear and tear" until I threatened to contact trading standards. I am now battling with him for a refund. The bike has also taken a lot of rust despite using recommended protective products and regular polishing. This bike is poor quality all round. Just about everything comes loose or bends and nothing is not up to standard. For example, putting the key into the ignition feels like you're attacking it with a hacksaw, the mirrors will not stay put and the indicator switch has bent and sticks. This is a TERRIBLE bike. I do not recommend it.

“Buy Japanese”

written by Hoghogd on 05/10/2011

The bike was bought new (£1700 approx) waste of money. this After about 100 miles the gear linkage fell off and had to be installed and readjusted, this appears to be an ongoing. My daughter had an accident, luckily she wasn't injured, but the bike had considerable damage which would have been more relevant to a higher speed accident. The build quality of the bike is very inferior indeed. The inferior quality of the steel and chrome finish of the makes it look tatty. My advise to anybody thinking of buying a regal raptor is to spend your £1700 on a Jap 125, keep well away from all Chinese imitations, they are not worth it.

“Happy Regal Raptor Owner”

★★★☆☆

written by EosBoy on 19/08/2011

Purchased a AJS DD125 E-5 EOS recently for £1700. Its a 2007 low mileage model fitted with a 300cc engine. I’m lucky that’s its been well looked after by its previous three owners. So far I have had only minor problems such as a worn and loose gear change/pedal mechanism. I have upgraded the front headlamp light with a halogen BA20D bulb, changed the front fork and engine oil, replaced the brake fluid, sprayed silicone onto the electrical components and oiled and greased bolts and screws which showed signs of rusting. These Chinese bikes are built to a budget but I feel with regular maintenance and care they will give good value for money. Like most motorcycles its crucial to keep them free from excessive water/rain and road crud by regular cleaning and chrome polishing. I am enjoying owning and riding my 8ft EOS and overall think its a reasonably good custom style bike.

I have a 350 Daytona, the Garage mechanic is thinking of charging me parking space it's in so often. Jan 1st - February 6th 2015 3 days of use, the rest of the time in at the mechanics. Now been a week and looking for an electrical fault, the bike coughs and spits when over taking, drops to one cylender and eventually stops. 18 months old less than 7000km and spent 8 months of those in the Garage.

“I bought the Regal Raptor 215 DDE for £1799 and it has...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 19/09/2010

I bought the Regal Raptor 215 DDE for £1799 and it has been nothing but trouble.

After 3 weeks of normal use and 400 miles, the gear linkage on the inside broke and left me stuck in 4th gear, I then blew a gasket driving in 4th gear and bump starting the bike back to the garage which was 13 miles away.

The bracket for the carbon filter split due to engine heat after 3 weeks and 400 miles.
The bracket over the fuel lines running to the carburettor split due to heat after 5 weeks and 700 miles.

The right side panel which covers the battery and fusebox is held on by 2 flimsy pieces of plastic and a bolt at the front, this bolt wiggles loose no matter what kind of spacers or washers you use, and the pegs are solid plastic and brittle so they can snap very easily when you are trying to force them into the joining holes on the bike.

The Foot rests are held on with 1 bolt which rather than bolt into the mounting peg it merely pins the footrest to the peg, these became loose after 3 weeks and the left peg fell off 2 times before I decided to tape it on to the bike.

Similarly the left passenger foot rest fell off due to an oblong shaped mounting hole rather than a threaded circular hole.

The speedometer is nuts reading as much as 15% higher than your actual speed.

My suggestion is to by a suzuki eliminator or pay another £300 and get a brand new honda cbf125

“ I've had my 125 Raptor (07 plate) for 2 months now...”

written by on 09/08/2010

I've had my 125 Raptor (07 plate) for 2 months now and i've done about 500 miles on it. I've found it generally relieable and great fun to ride, there are a few minor down sides and these are, cheap seals which rot easily (which i easily replaced) rust under the paint on back forks, and a few rattles when you go 30mph +. All of this is indicitive of it being a £2 k motorcycle and while the quality of manufacturing is at least adequate, it's certainly not oozing. Although for 2 k its not exactly going to be really is it? On the plus side, what you get is a 125cc bike which can be mistaken (at least by some) as a much bigger bike. Its great fun to ride and is a good starter for someone looking to move up to more serious bikes. Its also very comfortable to ride and despite being spoilt a little by some of the cheap looking accessories, is still for the money I paid, a great, reliable and good looking bike which i've enjoyed having so far.
