We have recently purchased a BUSH TV/VCR combi for our caravan.

When we first installed this, the video was working normally.

However, after a short while, we lost the picture.

We still got sound, but the picture was just all fuzzy...

We have since returned the product and received a replacement.

The instructions for our Panasonic stereo state that the speakers should not be located near TV/VCRs or other equipment.

Can anybody tell me if doing so would cause any permanent damage to the VCR or would this simply cause interference?

Our speakers were right next to the TV/VCR unit...

    Cheers,

    Ian

The panasonic manual is correct in saying that you should keep unsheilded speakers from TV/VCRs because all speakers have got a large magnet in them and gives off an electro magnetic field and so when near a TV for instance it will create a rainbow colour effect and pull the picture in the direction of the magnet(speaker). Plus if left for over a very long periods of time it will then PERMANENTLY damage the TV's tube resulting in continual distortion even if the unshielded speaker is no longer nearby because the damage has already been done!

You can only place a speaker(s) nearby a TV/VCR if the speaker(s) has been designed with sheilding around the magnet to prevent distortion and interference.
