    From Essex,

    Hello,

I'm looking to buy a budget DVD player for my daughter that will play backup copies of her Disney films. We have a Sony (not chipped) that won't play some films and a Toshiba that starts pixelating on some films (a common problem I've since found out). Obvioulsy I just want something that will play films and doesn't need any fancy options for a good price.

    Any advice very much appreciated.

Yeah - you could try this from Amazon - only £19.99

I bought it - it can play all my DVDs (all regions)

    Starlogic Multi-region 2.1 DVD Player

Have had no probs. Good value.

Although I'm sure that Bluestu is well sorted by now, for the benefit of further viewers its worth pointing out that the biggest difference between cheap and expensive DVD players is - hype.

The technology used is now so basic and universally cheap that there's little to be gained by paying out big bucks. And with advancements in technology you are more likely to want to upgrade before the thing packs in - and you don't mind binning a cheap one (sorry environment Sad )

BTW most region coded DVD players can easily be hacked (recoded) to make them region free allowing you to buy DVD's abroad cheaply.

For those who don't know, Region coding is nothing to do with copyright protection, its just a fiddle worked by collusion of the DVD industry to control prices in consumer markets. Hence, UK prices can often be double that of USA or Canada.

Thanks for that - I agree totally with you - I bought a cheap DVD from Argos and it has done everything my daughter needs it for with no problems at all.

I don't know what's upset you Sean, but I'd recommend getting it sorted the right way not griping about it in here with an inflammatory post.

For your information, Lite-on products are regarded across the globe as one of the most advanced and reliable product ranges. But don't take my word for it, just go and visit any of the audiophile discussion forums, search for Lite-on and see for yourself.

Lite-on products are the basis of many of the "branded" products you will see and probably already own. For example, Sony CD & DVD writers are simply re-badged Lite-ons, as are many others.

Hope you get it sorted and hope this helps.

Ok. Maybe Lite On is a good company. In fact its probably great but there was something up with the service that we got and this particular model we bought.
