When you initially start trotting, try and keep your hands low, and if you can, it may sound a tad basic but see if you can hold a neck strap/mane, just to keep your hands still, as its more important to keep the balance, that looking fantasitic. When you can suppot yourself easily then you it will be easir to concentrate more on the style of your riding, because you don't want to get into the habit of using the reins to hang on/as an additional balancing tool (remember thay are in the horses mouth!!

When you make a downwards transition ie. trot to walk, think of it as still going forwards. continue to use the leg and push them onto the bit. you still use legs in walk so dont stop just becaue your coming down from a trot.

When riding a much smaller pony the strides tend to be much shorter, making them feel bumpier than they actually are anyway, especially if your used to riding horses. Also as the strides are shorter to move at the same speed as the other horses then there will be more strides taken in the same amount of time. To keep up they may often cut corners. If you are cantering indervidually, slow the canter right down by increasing your level of control and slowing down, it should be easir to sit to, and therefore you can concentrate on using your legs.

I f you feel you are being left behind whilst troting, try thinking of the rising trot, less going up and down and more swinging your hips forward, and then down.

try and sit up tall and relax your hands, keep a bend in the elbow and work from your legs not your arms, just relax you will get the hang of it, try some work with out stirrups as this will make you use your legs more. if you keep your hands still youl find it so much easier to get the write rythem, good luck.
