I changed to nPower when they were still Northern Electric and Gas, shortly after deregulation. Their service was poor - they were one of the cheapest providers but weren't able to cope with the volume of new accounts. I stuck with them but they have recently been ng up their prices - I know you can use price comparison service from certain companies to find the cheapest but does anybody have any experience of which of the cheapest companies offer decent service?

i work gas/electrics so heres some advice.

1- dont go with british gas for anything. they're not allowed to compete on gas prices.

2-it depends where you live! don't go with your regional electricity supplier, same reason- not allowed to compete on electric.

3- go with a smaller company

4- ask yourself, is price just the only thing thats important?

some companies offer more than just low price- nectar points for example.

5- door to door sales persons actually know what they're talking about. so get one in, let him explain it to you and show you how to work out bills. a good rep should have an "energysure" card (green) it shows he's not a cowboy!

i might be able to help, but i work in the industry so cant reccomend my own!

*telecom plus GARUNTEE to be cheapest, and also do home phone, internet and mobile tarriffs. and if you sign up a friend, you get 5% of their bills. forever. you wont have heard of them, as they have NO advertising costs-not even for internet.

*edf energy (seeboard, london, sweb) have good customer services and do nectar points

    *powergen do club card

*Scottish power are regarded as won of the cheaper suppliers and you can manage your account online.

    Good Luck!

    Paul

Hi Richard - The Utility Warehouse are very good and have a helpful customer service base in the UK in addition to value for money energy services - full details are available at www.telecomplus.org.uk/tonyc - I would highly recommend them, a London Stock Exchange company. Kind regards, Tony Very Happy

Quote: I am trying 'u-switch' and hav just signed up online to SWEB on dual fuel. DD with powergen was £67 . DD with SWEB £48 . Customer service seems OK so far. Very Happy

I am a lloyds TSB home gas/electricity customer. Although the company is linked to Scottish Energy/Scottish Gas, it seems to show no awful traits as does Scottish Gas.

Prices always remain reasonable, only making the odd increase every few years, which is never very high anyway. If a large price increase was to occur, you'd always be contacted by the company beforehand as a little word of warning. Smile

I work in the electricity industry, and I am frequently told " I can't understand why my bills are so high ". Well, it might have something to do with having a TV in each room, a computer in each child's bedroom, fancy halogen lights in the kitchen, dishwasher, tumble dryer, and numerous other appliances and gadgets. THINK!

I swore the next time someone knocked on my door telling me they can supply my gas and electricity cheaper I would scream! I have a 'please don't call if you're a door to door sales person' sticker (as supplied by BT) clearly displayed but for some reason they choose not to see it! And you can bet your life they call around right in the middle of my favourite soaps! I then have to spend the next 10 minutes being quizzed about my present supplier (while all my heat is going out the door!) while also insisting I don't want to change until I decide! Short of being very rude to them, I have been at a loss! But I've finally cracked it. Now I simply say "Ours is capped". They STILL choose to stand there asking how long for! As I politely close the door.

hello everybody, when i switched my utilities after a while of searching i found, http://www.moneysupermarket.com/utilities/cheaper-gas-electricity.aspx good comparison site. also, i found out that energy companies hike up their prices in summer when people don't use heating so when winter comes round and everyone gets hit with big bills they can say that the prices have been like that for a while! thought I'd give a heads up. Evil or Very Mad
