I changed to nPower when they were still Northern Electric and Gas, shortly after deregulation. Their service was poor - they were one of the cheapest providers but weren't able to cope with the volume of new accounts. I stuck with them but they have recently been ng up their prices - I know you can use price comparison service from certain companies to find the cheapest but does anybody have any experience of which of the cheapest companies offer decent service?

i work gas/electrics so heres some advice.
1- dont go with british gas for anything. they're not allowed to compete on gas prices.
2-it depends where you live! don't go with your regional electricity supplier, same reason- not allowed to compete on electric.
3- go with a smaller company
4- ask yourself, is price just the only thing thats important?
some companies offer more than just low price- nectar points for example.
5- door to door sales persons actually know what they're talking about. so get one in, let him explain it to you and show you how to work out bills. a good rep should have an "energysure" card (green) it shows he's not a cowboy!

i might be able to help, but i work in the industry so cant reccomend my own!
*telecom plus GARUNTEE to be cheapest, and also do home phone, internet and mobile tarriffs. and if you sign up a friend, you get 5% of their bills. forever. you wont have heard of them, as they have NO advertising costs-not even for internet.
*edf energy (seeboard, london, sweb) have good customer services and do nectar points
    *powergen do club card
*Scottish power are regarded as won of the cheaper suppliers and you can manage your account online.
    Good Luck!
    Paul

Hi Richard, for what it's worth I would also recommend TelecomPlus - I've been with them for over 5 years on my phone and 6 months for my Gas & Electricity and have had absolutely no problems. If I were you, I would check out a few price comparison sites first just to be sure but I think you'll still find them cheapest. I was so impressed I signed up as a reseller. Smile

    Try http://www.utilityzone.co.uk

They are the cheapest gas/electricity suppliers around. They also do home phone, mobile and internet. We switched to them back in February I have found them to be excellent. All your bills come on one monthly statement, one Direct Debit and a UK call centre to boot!

I changed all my household utilities over to Telecom Plus (Utility Warehouse Discount Club), this includes Gas, Electric, Home Phone, Line Rental and Broadband. They started a new service which includes 512kb Broadband and UNLIMTED 'Land Line' Calls for £19.95 - Bargain. The broadband has a 2gb download limit but plenty for the average home user. So, for under £30 i get my Line Rental, Broadband and all Land Line Phone Calls....

I had heard about it from a friend, but did nothing! Then a flyer came through the letterbox showing the new Service, I called the agent and he came around that night, job done..easy!

He gave me his card and his website is www.telecomplus.org.uk/1bill

I would recommend visiting this site, if only out of curiosity. You can sign up for services there too. So you don't even need a visit from an agent......do it all online.

    10/10...well done Telecomplus.

    Shocked
I have been with Telecom Plus for over 3 years. I was introduced by my brother, who was then an agent. I took Gas, Electricity, Phone Calls and Mobile Phone(x2) Never took TelecomPlus broadband, was and still is quite expensive. I have had no problems at all with the service they provide. Nice to deal with an ENGLISH call centre.

However, recently they have raised their prices, as have most other companies. Using uSwitch I have found SEEBOARD may save me around £90 a year compared to TelecomPlus.

Have to do a little more research before I decide to switch because of the other services I have with them. Can't find cheaper mobile service and as other members of my family also use Telecom Plus for phone calls, we call each other for free, anytime.

    Hi,

anyone can move their energy supply when they want. Please make sure that before moving that the supplier you want to go to have increased their prices. As oil has increased by over 50%, it wont be long before all suppliers put up there prices, so utility warehouse should still be favourable against the top 6 suppliers

Hope this helps in your search
