I have just found and bought the CD that enables me to activate the TMC feature of my Volkswagen Sat/Nav system, but now I get really poor radio reception. So bad that I am wondering whether it is worth it. Actually I am putting up with it because the TMC feature is reallt good/useful.
Anyone any ideas as to how a) I can boost the signal or b) solve the problem another way. -

Hi There,
I have to VW MFD sat nav system, and was considering purchasing the TMC disks, but you might just have changed my mind.
The only real help I can offer is to try the disks out in my system, and see if I have the same problems. If I do, then it's got to be the update which is causing the problems. If not, then it might be your unit.
If you want to talk about it, then drop me a line at: fat_furry_cat@nospam.hotmail.nospam.com.

I spent over six months trying to understand this whole issue around TMC. I got very little help from VW UK and eventually found a VW mechanic who put me onto the TeleAtlas guys. The previous CD I had did allow me to see the UK TMC station (Classic FM), but not able to see any TMC traffic information.
The latest TeleAtlas CD has the TMC codes license to fully enable TMC. However, I am a regular listener to Capital Radio in London and reception now is so bad that I can rarely enjoy listening to it - which certainly was not the case before. Most of the BBC stations are fine as are some of the other independents. I also lost the Michelin guide on this CD - so it appears - you can't have both. Another advantage is 4 digit post code selection of addresses with house numbers once the street is identified.
When using this CD it fully enables the messages - these display all of the current traffic reports - which incidentally are for MOTORWAYS only - so do not expect TMC on even major A roads - it is not there yet! Driving home in the evening I often see between 30 and 40 messages. These indicate motorway, junctions affected and what is affected (Accident, slow-moving traffic, closure etc.,) and it will only re-route if it has one of the more severe codes displayed (normally accident/closure) - I have yet to be re-routed on a slow-moving code.
It is very good however, the display will show the extent of the slow moving traffic, the voice system warns of traffic problems.
I suppose the million dollar question, is - & quot;is it worth the £160? & quot; - if you drive 25-30K miles a year like I do, mostly motorways, then I would say it is a no-brainer. Otherwise I see little benefit in spending a lot of money for relatively little extra information. -

Hi,
Well, a year on and the Volkswagen TMC issue still isn't resolved.
Despite what the manual and masses of Volkswagen PR releases say, TMC is NOT WORKING here with the £2000-option MFD2 navigation system for the simple reason that Volkswagen hasn't paid for a UK licence. It works in Europe, where TMC is a free service.
A large and growing group of disgruntled owners are pressuring VW to honour their documentation, but no results so far!
If you're looking to buy a new VW and want TMC the best advice is to specify the base radio option and then fit an aftermarket system. -

Hey stanavmc. I have just purchased an MFD2 system for my 2007 Passat. I also have the Version 4 disc that comes with it.
I do not see th eoption for Dynamic Guidance, but do see that the TMC option is set to Automatic. But I am not picking up any channels. TMC is mainly stuck on SEEk, but I have seen it state a few frequencies next to it.
I have not tried the Classic FM channel though.
Am I doing anything wrong? -

Hi, I think the DVD you have is probably too old. The radio display will probably be showing "TMC seek"
You need the 2008 one from Teleatlas with the serial number EAN 9 789042806627

Volkswagen didn't pay for the licence, so You'll have to buy one.
