Card Not Initialized???

I have a Fuji Fine Pix F-700 camera. I'm getting the error message USB DSC when I turn it on. I've managed to get the camera formated both on my computer and within the camera itself but it will work for a time or two then fail to open again. When I get this message the camera won't open. I get the same message when turning on the viewing screen as well. I can sometimes get the camera operate by hooking up to my computer and uploading a picture onto the camera. After uploading, the camera SOMETIMES will operate. Once working, I've formated via the camera's "formate" option. Sometimes it allows a picture after that but fails again shortly after. Any ideas? I've also gotten the Card not Initalized message. The bottom line is, initalizing doesn't cure the problem indefinately. -

I have a fujifilm xd H1gb card. I had this problem with the "card not initialized". Tried formating on the camera (fuji finepix s5600) and it said "card error". Put it in my computer and tried to format from there, again it wouldnt work. I tried to format it with "FAT" instead of "FAT32" setting and it worked a charm. Put the card back in and formated on my camera and there we go. Its all fixed. Thanks to everyone who posted before me, you saved me from having a stroke

I have a FujiFilm E550.
I have had it for awhile and it is a great camera!
I love taking OUTSIDE pictures, and last summer it was fine.
Now whenever i take a picture outside, they come out VERY light and sometimes
even white. I know it is not the settings, because I have tried all of them and messed
with it for days. I know a lot about cameras/electronics But I cannot seem to figure out
why the pictures come out too light to even tell what the picture was take of.
(Mind you, inside the pictures come out PERFECT. This is why I am so confused) -

XD CARD NOT INITILIZED? BAD SECTORS or CORRUPT FILES?
For such a common problem I can't believe Fuji don't make more of an issue in their instructions etc. After checking this site I found the answer for me. I had all sorts of little problems such as corrupt files/avi's etc and not initilized, mainly after using a card reader. I had formatted one card and still no joy, but that was because my default selection in Windows was FAT32. So:
1. Bad or corrupted file, photo, movie etc. Run CHKDSK on your card. I saved 95% of my valued family pics.
Run the following (*) = the Drive letter of your card. "CHKDSK *: /r"
2. Card not initilised. Using your card reader choose format and select FAT only, not FAT32 or NTFS. You will lose any saved data,
but you should be back to square one. You could reformat in your camera after, but I don't think that is an issue.

My XD cards are FAT32 formatted.
Doing a quick format in a media reader in XP has resolved the 'card not initialised' error although all data is lost.
(right click on removable drive and select 'Format...' then tick 'Quick format' and 'Start') -

Not really part of this thread! Sounds like the aperture is physically stuck wide open. Inside pics always use wide open aperture but outside on bright days the aperture closes to let in less light. If it is stuck open and you have exposure control you need to go for the fastest shutter speed possible outside (an 'action' setting might do). -

Hello!
I have a Fuji FinePix F20 with A LOT of great pictures from our recent trip on the card, and I've loaded all the pictures onto my dad's PC fine.
When I went to load them on my imac, it didn't work and now when the card is back in the camera I am getting the "Card not initialized" error message.
I've read I need to reformat the card but I don't want to loose any of the pictures, Can anyone help me? Thanks!

Alright I need some help.
I took some amazing pictures the other night and this morning when I went to review them on my camera it read :"CARD NOT INITIALIZED"
I do not want to lose my pictures, and when I plug my card into my smartmedia I have several options, but when I click them they all say "REMOVABLE DISK I (in my case) NOT FORMATTED, WOULD YOU LIKE TO FORMAT?"
No, I would NOT like to format. How can i save these pictures!? I'm completely lost!

Hi, I have the same problem. My camera and XD card have been working together fine for the past year. Now when I take pics I can only download them once. After that when I turn the camera back on it say's Card Not Initialized. I then have to format the card if I want to use it again. This is what happens on both my cards not just one. Do you think changing the format to FAT will work? I am not too technology minded so can you explain a bit more how to do this? Would appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks
