Give this site a try. The software is really good at recovering erased, damaged and otherwise inaccessible files from digital cards. I use it myself in my photo finishing shop.

One nice thing about the software. You can download the demo, see what it can recover, then decide whether you want to buy the program, which as I recall is not terribly expensive.

Here is a problem with an A303 Fujifilm digital camera and a "card not initialized" error message. The 256 mb XD card works in other cameras and in my computer's card reader. but gets the "card not initialized" message in the A303. I tried other formated cards in the A303 and got the same message. This is clearly a camera problem and not a card problem. Any ideas?

I have a Fujifilm S602Zoom which is also displaying the same problem. It is not the card as Jessops tried my card in a different camera and it worked but new cards do not work in my camera. Jessops say it is a standard charge of £178.50 for any repair to a fuji camera which is ridiculous. Anyone got any suggestions????

Help! I was taking pictures with my A345 Fuji camera and i dropped it, now whenever I turn it on it says "card not initialized". Everybody has said to reformat my card but there is no reformat option in any of the menus! And it wont let me press "ok" to select anything either! Any help would be much appreciated!

You can use another camera with a format option. I have a Fuji S2 which habitually does this fault, so i use my D70...where the card always works..and reformat it there. It then works in the Fuji

    Hope this helps you.

I had the same problem with 1Gb XD card: part of the card was not readable by the camera (FinePix S 5500) and the camera got stuck. So I inserted the XD card into a PC and, yes, indeed, half of the card was not readable on the PC as well: Properties (right click on the card in Microsoft Explorer) showed almost 1Gb in total occupied, however, files found under the directory structure DCIM/100_FUJI could account for only about 400 Mb, almost 600 Mb were not visible at all. Looed like the card problem.

Without thinking too much, I formatted the card on the PC using FAT (Properties showed FAT, so I used this file system for formatting), then created the correct directory structure. However, the camera did not recognise

the card. THIS DOES NOT WORK!!!

The correct fix to this problem is to go to the SET menu of the camera itself and do the FORMAT option there, this is explained in the manual under SETTING. This fixed the problem completely. Of course, I will never know what actually caused the card to misbehave, but this is another matter.

All the data on the card will be lost if you format it. To save something left on the card, try to use several computers to read it, it may sometimes help!

Hope this was useful to somebody ...

Good News! a little late.. I got the same message on my Fuji F30 a couple of times..with a heartbreaking feeling that all was lost and format was needed...I USED LEXAR IMAGE-RESCUE SOFTWARE ..suppose to be used for CompactFlash...but it worked wonderfully on my 1gb XD card! It is free with the purchase of some of their cards..hope this helps. I just went on a trip to France and brought my Fujifilm A200 Digital Camera and used a Fujifilm 256 MB memory card. (I've used my camera many times before and I have never had a problem with it) I took about 550 pictures and I viewed them on the LCD screen multiple times so I know they worked. When I got home I went to load them onto my computer and about half of my pictures worked but the other half didn't. I unplugged my camera from the USB and went to view them and the screen reads "Card not Initialized." I've already researched this warning and I cleaned the memory card and connection, so I know it isn't that and I can't reformat it without losing all my pictures. I also unplugged it from the first computer I tried it on, and plugged it into another and surprisingly it worked. Well the same pictures that came up on the first computer came up again, and for a few of the ones that don't download I can actually SEE them but it says it can't load them. Does anyone know ANYYYTHING I can do to save my pictures?! PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!! Thanks.

Yes i can confirm that if you get the "CARD NOT INITIALIZED" message, u simply need to insert the card into a pc card reader, and formnat the card (right clicking the card in My Computer and clicking FORMAT)then using the FAT system, not FAT32 or NTFS, it worked for my S304. Thought i'd better note it was thre FAT file system u needed to use! Thanx

Quote: null USE LEXAR IMAGE-RECOVERY SOFTWARE ..IT WORKS ON XD BESIDES COMPACTFLASH! SAVES 300 PICTURES! ITS FREE ON SOME OF THEIR CARDS.
