Card Not Initialized???

    Ive borrowed a Fuji MX-1200 but when I switch the camera on I get the message " Card Not Initialized " on the LCD screen.

    There is a 32 mb memory card in the slot.

    Can anybody suggest a solution?

    I have just bought a fuji 6900zoom - in the instruction book in the warnings section it says for "card not initialized" "Explanation - 1)the smartmedia is not formatted. 2) the smartmedia terminals are soiled."

    "remedy -1)Format the smartmedia. 2) wipe the contact area on the smartmedia with a soft dry cloth.

    i had same problem on a finepix 4800 camera,

    all of a suden, the same message "card not initiazed"

    i reformated (option in camera menu) and

    all works fine again

    A friend has just sent me some smart media cards that he has been using in his Mp3 player but now wants to use in his camera again. I get the Card not Initialized message in the camera, tried the format option but it 'hangs' the camera. It has been sitting there now saying 'erase' for several minutes, it would normally take a couple of seconds.



    Any ideas?



    My camera is a Fuji MX600 but I have no idea what Mp3 player he was using. Tried the usb reader too and that shows no media in the drive but strangely it is accesable but will not format there either

    on the 2800Z you must be in playback mode to initialize the card. There is no such option in the capture mode.

    You are all lifesavers. I too got this message today after using a smart media card for 3 months with my Fuji FinePix 2800, reformatted the card with the camera option and all is fine.

    I have a FinePix F601, and it has the same message 'Card Not Initialized', and I can't find the reformat button, what should I do?
