Sony DAV-S550 DTS problems - help!

Is anyone else having problems with playing DTS DVD tracks with the Sony DAV-S550 system?



When I play DVDs using the DTS track I experience faults at random points in the DVD. It can happen after 4 minutes or 90 minutes. The sound cuts off and the frame rate drops off until it completely grinds to a halt. The remote + unit controls are completely unresponsive. The only way I can continue watching or even get my disc out is to go into standby mode (this takes about 5 times longer than usual) and then restart the player.



No such problems have occurred in Dolby Digital 5.1 playback and its has reared its head on multiple DVDs e.g. Fellowship of the Ring, Terminator 2, Reign of Fire etc. Replaying the same section of DVD directly afterwards does not reproduce the problem, so I am sure it is not a disc fault.



Can anyone help me?

the cause of your dvd players failure is in dts the AV decoder is working alot harder and over heating to shutdown.. Im a sony Tech and this was a problem
in that and many other sony models of that error
it will soon begin to fail on regular dvds vey costly repair hopefully you have a repair insurance plan..around 150 to fix...

My DAV-S550 never has any problems while a movie is on. Either in DTS or normal. But turning it on somtimes takes up to 5 attempts. I turn on the power DAV-S550 comes on the LCD then DVD then nothing. No Buttons work at all I have to keep turning it on and off. Somtimes if it is in standby and I press play which should resume the movie It will not turn on. I then press standby which takes about 15 seconds. When I press play again it may work or somtimes it ejects the disc??? I had it back to the shop twice (not sony) And they didn't know what was happening. They said they sent it off to Sony who changed something but it has made no difference. Any ideas??

Hi i a have a 550 and it was shutting down but would restart the next day gave it lad at work who repairs electrical items worked for a couple of months but now it wont power up at all any ideas and what it would cost to repair > Thank You Mr Alan Seymour.
