This camera is fantastic. I've had it for a little over a week and I can't fault it. It takes a 25 second movie with sound on a 16mb card and the movie quality and sound quality is astounding !!! The still shots are absolutely fantastic also. Spoil yourself - they are about £600 in the UK - thats about 20 bucks in the states !! -

I have one too. Like it a lot. They list for $600(US dollars), I purchased mine for $374 plus $20 freight. Also bought the docking bay for $54 which allows me to charge battery, upload pictures, and view results on TV screen.
The software works great that comes with it--I can select and email photos with just my right mouse button. I have yet to learn/use all the extra features. I like the "frameset" ability: it stores 3 versions of the same photo, allowing you to pick the best later. I like the ability to view and delete right there on the spot( I have a feeling most digital cameras have this ability). You can also zoom and clip a foto and save right after you take it.
Not too good a result with videos in dim light. I shouldn't expect more, but I'd like to know if there is software that I can tweak the brightness and contrast for the whole video sequence. The video wouldn't play on my Real Player or DivX player, just the one that comes with the camera.
If I wanted both good stills and good video, I would buy a cheaper still camera and save a little more money and buy a $300 video camera. However, I bought the FinePix 601x without expecting video capability at all! Also, I like how it records sound. I can actually use this thing to sound record dance instruction workshops where I don't want the instructor to know I am recording his voice. The biggest Smart Media card only costs around $50 (discount). Probably will buy an extra battery and the "better" battery charger that will charge batteries in 2 hours instead of 5. A couple Smart Media cards, a couple batteries, and I can take off for a week in the mountains and have more and better pictures than I would ever have with a film camera.
To buy mine, I typed the name of the camera in google.com. I would study the reviews of the retailers if you can get to a "price comparison" website, and I would MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE that you are buying the US model that has the US warranty. They will try to sell you the "grey area" model and charge you an extr $50 for the US warranty. Not sure how this applies to people living in Europe, etc.
I would like to correspond with other owners of the Fuji FinePix 601x concerning best practices when taking photos and what they've discovered about the Fuji FinePix 601x.
Kind regards,
John Davis

I have just replaced my Canon S30 with the Fuji F601zoom, there is absolutely no comparison, the Fuji wins hands down. Lovely sharp pictures, small enough to fit in my handbag............and it only cost £479 including docking station!!
I would recommend it to anybody
