I just got a kyocera 5135 and I cant even get it to turn on it just says service required and it will not even take a charge. Even after I connect it to the charger it says the battery is low and just goes back to service required.

    Any Ideas?

did you got a fix for that ?

I changed the battery on mine, but that just worked for a while.

I noticed that if can workaround that issue by power on the phone without the battery, using the AC adapter.

I am having the same problem. According to FutureShop, where i bought the phone, apparently this is a common problem with this phone. I have had my phone just over a year and of course, surprise surprise, the warranty covers only one year of usage.

I am convinced this is either a manufacturer defect or an intentional design scam to purposely reduce the life of the phone so consumers will buy new sets. If I was told the phone will last just one year I would not have purchased it in the first place.

I know of a large computer laptop manufacturer that has tried the same scam involving keyboards malfunctioning after the expiration of the 2 year warranty. Luckily enough a class action lawsuit was filed against them and they end up having to compensate for all the repairs.

anyone out there with the same problem with Kyocera please speak up.

I have a kyocera 5135 flip phone,i have owned it for a little over a year now, and one day i turned it on and it simply said & quot;service required & quot;. It wont power up or nothing, and im stuck with it because the warranty went just a few weeks before it quit.

you can kiss your phone goodbye. I had the same problem and tried to resolve it with the phone co and kyocera but was unsuccessful. The phone company has privately admitted to me that this problem happens to most kyocera 5135 phone sold and thus has discontinued this model in 2003. I was so pissed off I threatened to cancel my phone service and at the end they gave me a free phone upgrade and waived all the upgrade fees.

I will never buy another kyocera phone or any of their products again. I hope others will do the same.

Very Happy You DO NOT have to kiss your phone goodbye.

If your 5135 is less than 18 months old, you may qualify for a warranty repair. Read on.

I had the same problem and tried to resolve it first with Bell Mobility and then Kyocera.

The Bell Mobility rep was useless, basically tried to sell me another phone offering the same rebate that any new walk-in client could get, plus all the sign up costs, etc. Ka-ching $$$
The dealer, Best Buy, was useless: never again.

The Kyocera rep was helpful, gave me a file number and referred me to National Wireless in Mississauga. NWSI is dealer oriented but did refer me to its retail div. But I live on the other side of the GTA and it was going to take days.

I called The Phone Store, a Bell Mobility dealer at 1244 Lawrence Avenue East and spoke with a very helpful and pleasant man there. Guess where I will be looking when I buy another phone? I told him my problem and asked where he sends phones to be repaired.

    FutureTel in Markham Terry 905-415-2388
Service oriented and very pleasant to deal with. I paid the express service fee ($18 + GST) and got a replacement phone.

Bonus: they were able to get the old unit running long enough to transfer my address book to the new phone.

I have the same problem with my 5135. What did NWSI do? My phone is 8 months old. I run my own business and my life is in my phone. Do they take a long time to repair these things?

I did not use MWSI. NWSI had referred me to National Cellular also in Mississauga at 905-828-9201. They may have a similar service. Way far west for me.

I live and work in east GTA so I went to FutureTel in Markham. Call first: Terry 905-415-2388. FutureTel offers a one-hour express service for $18 plus tax.

I sat in my car for an hour with a coffee and the newspaper. Basically, I received a new phone with my old battery and they downloaded my contacts. Highly recommended.

    Good luck.

Well - I too have been stung by the Kyocera "Service Required" message. I took my phone back to the dealer - Of course the warranty expired 3 weeks ago - and was told to expect a bill of $125 to repair the phone. I think I am being generous when I expressed my opinion of that option.

Is Kyocera replacing these units? If so is my dealer just scamming me?

Does any one know of a "reputable" service centre in the west?

I get the sense that the issue is firmware and the need to flash the eprom. B

(Sorry if this is a duplicate)

I too have just hit the service required issue (planned obsolesence??) 3 weeks after the warranty expired. My dealer said I could get it fixed for $125.... My reply was colourful..
    Is Kyocera replacing these units?
Is there a Kyocera rep I can contact?
Is there a reputable service centre, preferably in the west, that can provide me with details?
Based on what the dealer told me, I think the issue is software, and he stated that Kyocera was setting the price for the re-flashing of the chip.
This is the second Kyocera phone I\
