Anyone know much about WAP / Web phones

Just got a new mobile which is WAP enabled. I went onto an internet site which gave a list of recommended WAP sites. The ones starting with wap (eg. wap.onlineweather.com) seemed to work but ones starting with www (eg. www.wapdrive.net) did not.

when a site starts with wap does it mean its for Mobile Phones? Can some phones enter web sites too?
