Well i brought it to Honda and basically they said the car needed a full tuneup. They replaced the spark plugs, ignition wires, the rotor & cap on the distributor. And the funny thing is that i put in new ignition wires and denzo iridium spark plugs last year! go figure. now i know i'm never gonna go for aftermarket parts again. i rather Honda put in their parts. At least they're liable if something goes out on u. Well anyways, the car starts up fine in the rain and also i noticed that the civic actually runs more smoothly now than even before! no sudden jumps when i hit the gas pedal! so another plus! Very Happy

I have a 96 Civic EX and I have the same problem. When it rains then car does not start. Car cranks, battery is good but does not start. As soon as weather gets sunny the car starts again with no problems on the first crank. I don't know what's going on? Please let me know if anyone gets to the bottom of this problem.

i did a little research online and asked a few of my friends of what the problem might be and it seems all answers point towards the distributor in the car, that it might be cracked or something to that nature. Anyways, i'm bringin my car into Honda for the professionals to check and figure out. I rather pay them the extra $ than goin to a regular service station and they don't know what's goin on or puttin in bull$hit parts. i'll post again once i get my car back.

Will look forward to hear back from you. I am also trying to find some info online and i am thinking of calling the Honda service center and ask them, if they know anything related to this perticular problem.

Hi, i'm new here and my problem is actually the opposite. i have a '98 Civic EX and lately i've noticed that when it rains my car cranks up but doesn't start for anything. i actually got it to start up once and it felt like my car was vibrating/shaking. i usually have to wait like a few hours after it starts raining for me to start the car normally again. i brought over to the local Mobil station and they don't even know. they said if it happens again to get it to the shop so they can do some "water/moisture testing" on the car whatever that means. do anybody here have any ideas or past experience on what the problem might be? thanks! Question

***sorry, i meant to say when i wait a few hours after it STOPS raining then i can start my car again.

    hai
i have a honda civic lsi 92 if ur car does not start after the first start then cheek the plug sockets just pull one out and put a screwdriver and put on the engien and try starting it if there is a spark on it when u start then its some thing to do with the electricals, if there is no spark coming on the screw driver then its the prblem with the distributor so we need to change the chip from inside, try out and it will be better off ! ccheks@yahoo.co.uk

This is exactly the same problem that I have - The description is so similar it is scary (except mine is a 92 not a 93). The problem has been there all the time in the 2 years I've had the car and seems to be getting gradually worse. The car turns over fine but won't fire - exactly like the one time I ran it out of fuel.
The car got to 105,000 miles and the clutch became quite grabby - making it stall more easily (complete nightmare when it won't restart!). I changed the clutch and found that half the clutch problem was caused by the release lever pivot - it had run dry causing crappy clutch actuation. Greasing the release lever pivot will make a big improvement to anyone who has a similar problem of a clutch that is difficult to feather.
I replaced one ground lead and cleaned up the other, (just in case there was a few volts dropped on the ground lead) but this made no difference. I didn't expect much from that anyway as turns over fine.

    MAIN RELAY??:
I have a reasonable mechanical knowlege of cars but mainly 50's and 60's stuff (when even the starter connection was manual - no relays at all Very Happy )

So - what/where is the main relay and do I need to get the part/s from a Honda dealer?

when you try to restart the engine after shutting off, do you just hear a & quot;clicking & quot; noise or can you hear the engine trying to rotate over?

below are some possible options when a 93 civic will not start when hot:

    - air filter clogged

    - fuel not reaching the fuel injection system

    - corroded battery connections, especially ground

i can walk you through the above to diagnose... just let me know

Before replacing anything try re-soldering the contacts on a petrol pump relay main-board (the relay that goes -click- when you turn the key onto a 'start' position; it is situated behind the fuse panel). The cover pulls off easily and there you have the relay main-board. Excuse my english but any electrician will know what I'm talking about.
