    MAIN RELAY??:

I have a reasonable mechanical knowlege of cars but mainly 50's and 60's stuff (when even the starter connection was manual - no relays at all )

So - what/where is the main relay and do I need to get the part/s from a Honda dealer?

Anyone know much about Civics? Summer is coming and I'm waiting to be left stranbded again.

Quote: The main relay on my honda is below the steering column on the right side next to the fuse board. It is a small gray box 1" by 2" with Relay Assy, main 39400-ST3-E011 A-Pro 369 12V on the front. These relays are very expensive from the Honda Dealer you could pick one up on ebay or from a scrappers.

Hey in adition 2 all of the questions here, I have a similar problem... I have a 1991 Honda Civic DX 1.6L D16 A6, and it won't start. It is getting fuel and spark, and the timing belt is fine, so I know its not the fuel pump, spark plugs or wires, I also checked all of the fuses, and the bar fuses, as well as the distributor. Anybody have any clue Question

hey i dont think its easy to reset the ECU your self, the hond delars can do it by attaching it to their system but u need to have good guys doing it or else they play u around ! try even some scrapyard mechanics too, u can get some good try there if they can get u a direct lead and attach in place with the existing one , thats really a good try, try its woth it ! cheers

Hi can we reset it ourselves, what about all things linked by ECU ? won't they need to be reset by Honda ? immobiliser etc ? Good scrap yard mechanics diff to find.

I have 98S reg civic 1.41i SE 5 door hatch. It suddenly conked out the other day. I've never had any probs with and done over 80,000 miles myself. Its not firing so we were told its the distributor. So we changed that and it's still not starting. Got a mobile car electrics guy to see car, charged me £50 to say there no live to distributor so u need to get ECU box fixed for few hundred quid as opposed to paying Honda £1000 for new one. Rang Honda they said diagnosis wrong as ECU never dies and can't be fixed once gone , its probably the wire to dist needs to be changed. Someone is telling porkies, can anybody help ?

hey it stoped in running then it should be problem with the ECU unit u can try to reset the unit and see if it works, but check if all the wiring is working in all the other parts and check the fuse box too for that ! there will be a lead which is conected to the distrubuter due to heat or water short that might trip the ECU so get it checked from a scrap yard mechanic its better so that he can even fetch u a lead wire from the older vehicles with him ! cheers

I have a 2005 Honda Civic Coupe. Since I got the car I noticed that every now & then I have trouble starting up my car. When I finally get it started, the car shakes/vibrates for a little bit. The dealership told me to watch for a blinking light on the dash which would indicate that something is wrong. When this happened again, I looked at my dash and saw this blinking light. I brought it to the dealership but they still haven't fixed it and refuse to because they can't figure out what's wrong. Anyone else having this problem w/the 2005 Civics?

I don't know about the 2005 Generation but the "shakes/vibrates" sounds very familiar to engine misfiring. I'm surprised ur seeing those problem this earlier though, but that's what it sounds like. A spark plug(s) might need replacing. how the hell does HONDA not know what's wrong?? aren't they the expert technicians??
