Ok, i know i took a while to respond, but i found the problem. The problem was with my ground wires. After replacing them and cleaning the contacts on the car, all problems went away. Check you ground wires people, especially the one from the valve cover to the chasis. -

Hi
I have a Honda Civic 1.4 Pertol 1999 model. Recently I have started getting starting problem.
When I turn the key, I hear a single, hard clunk. Thats it and the car would not start. (It gets started by pushing it.)
Now when I drive for some miles then switch off and then on, it starts without problem. But next day again the same problem.
Can anybody help me in resolving this?
Regards,
Sajal -

it seems that the problems is with do with the relays and distributor but more of electrical as u see if the car goes dead all of a sudden and u wont hear the click sound as u pop ur key in to the ignition the initial response comes with the active electrical response system from the car and the distributor may not receive the signal as its wiring or cables might have been worn out or some problem with conductivity. -

hey i guess its problem with the fuel line and the sensors in the MPFI some of them might have blocked , this generally happens when the last residue of the fuel tank come with the last suction of fuel in an empty tank. when that happens , the fuel ejection stop and wont start. its better to clean fuel lines and the fuel ejection system , cheers and good luck -

after researching about this, I'm thankful i found this post, i have a 92 civic lx 1.5L and also have the same problem. Some times it turns on and sometimes it turns on after like 6 tries. Ive changed the spark plugs and cables, fuel filter, and the dist cap, like 3 months ago. what i didn't change is the distributor rotor, so ill change that to see if it helps. However, after reading some of this stuff, it might be that its causing that because i don't have OEM parts (except spark plugs). This thing is driving me crazy. someone please come up with an answer

Hey every1, technically not a civic but i have a problem with my rafaga 2.0L, was driving the other day, stopped to get ciggies, hopped back in and hello when i turn the key to the on position... nothing, no oil lamp, no battery light, no speedo/rev counter display, to sum up no dash, turn off n on heaps of times and hallelujah it goes. so i'm driving along and woooh whole engine turns of, speedo and rev counter drop to 0 as if battery terminal flew off? but strangely head lights, hazard lights and stereo still work. after towing home i check every fuse in the car, they are all sweet?? help me!! -

i had the same and exact problem with my 94' honda civic what they found was that one of he wires to the fuel pump broke off dont ask me how because i dont know how it happened it was a wire leading to the comptuer from the fuel pump
also they also found dat there was also a burst open capacitor in the computer which they replaced an lastly they said the fuel pump has to be changed but maybe in this case you guys should change the fuel pump or check to see if the fuel pump is getting any electricity obviously u will bring it to a auto specialist to do so...... -

I have the same problem with my 91 honda civic. replacing the spark plugs with NGK's copper cores was about 7 dollars for all 4 plugs, and it seemed to help a little. You may want to change your pcv valve, or swap out the pcv valve system for a plain cone filter and a hose clamp. Try changing your air filter, and fuel filter as well. That helped a little with my problem too. I havnt changed the fuel filter yet because it is inside the tank and will take a little while to change. If it isnt that you may want to try your fuel sending unit (fuel pump), because fuel pumps dont always just quit, they can also slowly stop working. But try the filters first. Good luck! -Calin -

I hate to but in, but I have an 89 civic hatchback. It does the same thing, but it is intermittent. This is my first Honda and i love this little car. I drive it to work every day, but I am getting to where i don't trust it to start. I know BMWs inside and out, but this car has a carb. It starts fine in the am, but after short hops or diving to work doesn't want to start. Usually takes about six attempts then it starts. Almost acts as if it vapor locked. Anyone have any ideas?
