My remote is exactly the same as the one pictured. I couldn't get the hack to work though! -

Not sure if this is going to help us at all but I also own a Pacific 1001 player which has the EXACT same menu system as the Hitachi 170. If we can find how the hack is applied to this player maybe it's the same? I think the 1001 is multi-region out of the box, I can't remember now as it's been a while. -

I had a reply from beststuff.co.uk about their multiregion htd-k170, this is as follows:-
We've come to the conclusion that our machine which is a grey import from Italy does have a different remote.
Just need to find the remote, also someone emailed me this link.

That hack on the last link did not work. Are you saying that we just need to find the button that corresponds to the 'last' button on the other remote, or is the actual hack totally different? -

I assume we need a different remote or the hacks are rubbish. I'm at a total loss on this one

Nick King:
I have seen your post on other sites, like you I'm looking everywhere for a hack. Love this player but I have a stack of region 1's I can't play on this and need to use my old machine, not good.
Feel that we are getting closer, there must be a hack out there somewhere :{ -

I've emailed beststuff.co.uk again to ask if they can supply a remote to hack the player, I've attached a picture of my current remote so they can compare. I'll let you know.

Just me again, checking to see if anyone has had any joy with this hack yet
I am still searching sites all over the web but no joy. A hack would make this system perfect. -

Here it is.... EVENTUALLY, and it WORKS!
set default settings first - eg. setup/preferences/default then set to reset
on remote:
press open
press setup
press 1,1,1,1,1,0
it will display "OK"
You are now region free!
