    Not sure if this is going to help us at all but I also own a Pacific 1001 player which has the EXACT same menu system as the Hitachi 170. If we can find how the hack is applied to this player maybe it's the same? I think the 1001 is multi-region out of the box, I can't remember now as it's been a while.

    My remote is exactly the same as the one pictured. I couldn't get the hack to work though!

    Yes this is the remote I have, no last button!!

    I am about to give up on this hack and get a different DVD player even though I love the sound and picture on this. Need my region 1.

    I tried the hack you got but it does not work on my machine !!!



    Mine is the Argos deal as well so maybe that's why. I feel that we are getting closer though.

    hi guys its me again. ive just received a nice email from the people at beststuff.co.uk with the HACK anyway look at the reply and remember all you need to do is ask. no i havent tried this yet but i am now about to let me know if there are any successes or failures.

    Because you asked nicely we're giving you the hack (below). All we ask is that you take a look at our site now and again to see if we have anything for sale that you might be interested in.



    Please note though that Argos do not buy their Hitachi machines from the same source as us. They tend to source from other countries to get the benefits of the exchange rate changes. There's should still be a UK specification machine - but the hack that works for our machines may not work for theirs. That said, it should work.

    1. Press the Setup button on your remote control

    2. Press the Last button on your remote control

    3. Press the Skip Previous button on your remote control

    4. Press the Skip Next button on your remote control

    5. You will now enter the LoopHoles menu where you can alter the region of this unit
