I have a Compaq 1200us laptop with Windows ME. I was able to install a firmware update on the Lyra a couple of months ago when I got it but that is all I can do.

The Lyra does not show up in my 'My Computer' or desktop. Luckily, it works on the 2 Macintoshes and an HP desktop that I have but just not on the laptop.

If you have any ideas, I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    Rich

It seems to me that I saw something about it having problems with ME -- as do a lot of things I think. I read a lot of stuff on the reviews on CNET -- you might want to go through them and see what you can find. The review is for the 1080 but it I think the issues are similar:

I found it really helpful. Everybody at my work wants this thing now. It's so fun. I hope you can find the answer!

    Here's another review:

    They talk about ME, too.

I went to the two websites you provided and neither showed anything about Windows ME. One of the links took me to the Lyra SD1080. Thanks anyway.

One thing I noticed from the specs; it says the battery lasts 10 hours. That is complete bull crap. They last about 2 hours tops. How has your experience been with battery life?

    Thanks,

    Rich

I did read there that some people had & quot;problems & quot; with ME but they didn't have any solutions, though. I've been getting 14+ hours with a rechargable! I put one in and left it on all day to see how long it would last and it just kept going. I have the RayoVac 1 hour charger. I was amazed!

I wonder if the transfering and deleting the files on the lyra from the computer uses a lot more battery power? I don't think I've had one battery in it that did not have transfering usage on it. Maybe that's the problem. I use rechargeables too.

    Thanks,

    Rich

P.S. Snowgurl? I'm in Florida. No snow here, thank God!

I haven't done too much transfering yet so that may be the case. I'll do some more of that and see if it drains it.

I'm in the mountains in Montana -- it's snowing right now! Yea. We love snow here. Can't get enough. Going boarding tomorrow. It is 35 out so it's kind of balmy! Smile

You're going boarding? You mean snowboarding, right? I'm a surfer and I've always thought snowboarding would be easier for me to learn than for others because I think the sports are similar.

Anyway, don't break anything out there on the hills and thanks for your concern about my Lyra.

    Good luck,

    Rich in Florida.

I always thought I'd do well at surfing, too. I'm going to visit friends is San Diego this spring and am going to try. I hurts a lot more boarding when you fall, though, unless there's 3 feet of powder like we have today! Good luck with the Lyra!

I have a sister and brother in law in San Diego and have surfed there 2 or 3 times. First of all, the water is frigid cold in the spring. In March it could be as low as the high 50 degree range so if you are learning, you may not enjoy yourself and, the waves can be VERY big there. You need one to two foot waves to start and if I were you, I'd wait until the very late spring if that is when you have to go so the water has a chance to warm up. You'll need a wetsuit if it is under 70 degrees.

    Good luck,

    Rich
