One of the main differences between BT and GENIE is the top up requirements.
On Genie Pay as you go it is necessary to top up by at least 10 pounds each calendar month in order to continue to make calls. You can receive incoming for approx 60 days after then.
DAY TIME = 30p per minute
EVENING = 10p per minute
W/ENDS = 5p per minute
However on Genie you get 300 free text messages per month and 3000 free wap minutes providing you use the genie portal.
BT pay as you go have two tariffs
1) Standard which charge similar to Genie with Weekend calls at 2 pence per minute
2) Talkalot which charges 25p for the first three minutes of each day and then 5 pence for the remainder of the day
on both BT tariffs new users get free wap for the first month and then choose to pay £1.33 per week for 200 minutes for wap each week which would save on the normal 10p per minute
One big factor to consider thought with Genie (My son is on Genie) is that voice calls to a BT Cellnet or MM02 customer service advisor is charged at £1.00 per minute while on BT CELLNET Prepay it is only 20 pence
Genie online help is free but frankly hopeless
Hope this helps -

Calls to other mobiles are 50p daytime and 25p offpeak
Genie and Cellnet coverage is variable and as i stated customer support by telephone is £1.00 per minute and online support is both time consuming and unrewarding.
My son never gets any reply to emails sent to customer service and the "live chat" tech advice seems to have died.
Personally i would recommend Virgin which charges 15 pence for the first 5 minutes in any day and then 5 pence thereafter. This is useful if you have to use your phone during the day and these charges even extend to wap and data
voicemail is free and calls to other networks is 35 p per minute
genie does give 300 free text messages per month and 3000 free wap minutes but you do have to top up by £10 per month and although you can see you remaining call balance on screen you are not shown where you are in the 30 day cycle so it is possible to find that your service has been cut off as far as outgoing is concerned because you have not topped up within the 30 days.
days are not carried forward i.e. if you top up with £10.00 on the 15th and then top up with £10.00 on the 25th your monthly period seems to stay the same i.e. you do not get 30 days for every £10
voicemail is 10 pence per message as is a very laboriuos process
if you want cheap calls for evening and weekend maybe try vodafone pay as you go - initially you will be on the smartstep tariff you can change to original where you do pay a service charge but get excellent coverage and charges
i.e. top with £15.00 and you get 60 days access and £5.00 calls this works out at approx 17 pence per day
calls are 35 pence daytime 08.00 - 18.00 and 2 pence between 18.00 and 08.00 the longest offpeak timeband but does not apply to public holidays - calls to other networks as per genie
smartstep gives calls at 25 p for first 3 minutes and then 5 pence + first free text at 12pence and then 9p for rest of the day
hope this helps -
