hi a triband phone is so you can use it in other country's. I go to usa quiet a lot and i have a triband motorola 250 timeport. Now when I was there not long ago I enqired about buying a phone there and using here. There is one phone only that you can do that with and that is the latest Nokia. All other phones do not work here because they do not use sim cards. I hope this helps Vicky4

tri-band is coming out in all newer versions of phones now. tri-band is so you can use your phone in countrys like the usa and canada. so you dont need to buy a phone there its nothing to do with the fact that there phones dont carry sim cards in them

Different US suppliers use different methods. Use of SIMs is by service not my handset maker. MetroPCS and (I think) Verizon don't use SIMs. Cingular and T-Mobile do. I'm still sorting out the others.

I've just tried to get my Nokia tri-band working in the US on a US prepay SIM card to avoid the high cost of relaying US to US calls via the UK using Orange. No luck so far. Expensive US to UK calls and very expensive US to US calls work fine.

Tri-band will mean more to a UK supplier because a reasonable proportion of UK people need to buy them. The proportion of US people who need a phone in the UK is minute.

triband means that your mobile phone is capable of working in 3 frequencies 900/1800/1900 GSM

having a triband phone ensure that u can use your phone anywhere in the world, as long as ur carrier has roaming capabilities.

    in northamerica, they use 900/1900

in asia and in europe i think it's 900/1800

also one thing about mobile phone. some mobile phones are locked; meaning that the phone can only use the simcard it came with or the simcard the carrier or provider gave. make sure first that the phone is unlock to make full use of a triband phone's capabilities.
