I am having problems holding charge in the batteries of my Sony DCR. After apparently charging and the battery life monitor showing 80-90 mins, the batteries discharge in no time at all (5-10 mins use). The battery is new as I thought there was a problem with the original but now I am wondering if there is a problem with the charger. Failing that could the camera be faulty and draining the batteries at an excessive rate? Has anyone had similar problems?

Yes I have the same problem. Allegedly, this is a known problem at Sony with charger model AC VF10 (although they are not publicising or admitting the fact). I have ordered the replacement AC VQ11 (£130) and will try and pursue against sony. Suggest you try and do the same !

Received the new charger. Hasn't resolved the problem .......must be a problem with the camcorder. I'm in further contact with Sony about this.

I too have had the same problem with my charger AC-VF10. I have borrowed a friends charger (same model) and my battery held charge with no problem. When I put the battery into the faulty charger it does not appear to lock the battery in correctly. Whereas when I have used the OK charger the battery locks in tightly. The charge light on my faulty charger also flashes after a few seconds. I have been told that you can get a general battery charger (that will charge SONY batteries) for approx £40 from Jessops.

read your comments on battery problem as i have experienced the same although one of my batteries worked ok on friends charger the second one didn't so i suspect the battery in my case. The reason for my reply is try global batteries.co.uk as they supply both batteries and chargers at a very good price

I have lost my AC-VF10 AC Adapter Base charger.

Anyone have one that works that they would sell?

    Hi Keith,

I stumbled across you're review as I happen to have the exact same trouble with my DCR-PC3E. It all started 13 months after buying it (Januari 2000) and after that I tried several options. Nothing worked. After lying around for years I thought I should try it with a new charger (AC-VQ11) but that was not it either.
What, in you're case, was the cause of all the trouble? (I don't mean: "buying a Sony" Wink )
