Definitely Perry McCarthy. Someone I work with met him a couple of weekends ago. He spoke about various off-camera incidents whilst filming Top Gear involving damaged Maseratis. He has also just written a book but I don't know if it mentions his Stig activities

In an issue of Top Gear he is described as & quot;racing driver height with a French Accent & quot;. Alain Menu?

Er....Sorry to shatter the illusion but the reason why different people who've been to events with The Stig are giving different names is because there's more than one Stig I'm afraid.

It's partly because they couldn't get the same driver every week so hiding his identity solved the problem.

To the best of my knowledge it's never been Tiff Needell though.

There is one regular driver however and let's just say he's not exactly English - The clue's in the language JC uses to introduce him on TopGear TV.

I think it's your illusion that needs to be shattered, & quot;A Stig & quot;, by perusing the following URL of a well known online bookstore. Just zoom in on that book cover there..

Secondly a friend of mine had a long chat with the man himself about filming top gear.

It's so well known now that I don't see why the discussion continues.

Not sure if anybody's seen it yet but if you check out the BBC's own website at

It seems to uncontestably indicate that the Stig is in fact Perry McCarthy, and Essex based racing driver who used to test F1 cars for Benetton.

    Hi again.

Perry was certainly one of the drivers.... & quot; Was & quot; being the operative word.

Will he back? Will The Stig return from life on the ocean wave?

    Watch this space!

    ITS PERRY I FOUND THIS ON A BANG & amp;OLFSON SITE----Events

Bang & amp; Olufsen of Chester regularly hold events, either in our own showroom or in those of our affinity partners. It gives our customers a chance to meet other customers and to get to know us, and the products a little better over an informal glass of wine.

More recently we held an evening of motor sport and were kept entertained by guest speaker, Formula One driver Perry McCarthy, also known as “the stig” on BBC’s Top Gear programme.
