The best Triband phone there is that I have owned is actually a SIM based phone. There is only a limited amount of these phones and I have been fortunate to find it. The Nokia 8890 is the best one that I own. I have owned the V60i, 6310i, 5100, 6610, 7210 and some others I have acquired with in the past 5 months that I had service and the 8890 as been the best for me.

First Off to have a triband phone to work in the usa you will need a sim chrd all GSM Carriers in the USA require that you have a sim card to use the phone. If you are coming to the US and you want something without a sim card and To work in Europe and in the USA which by the way there is none due to the USA used a differant type od wireless system That the just now changeing to GSM and the World phone are aviable. you may want to look at a TDMA phone or maybe just go to Ebay and by a phone that is tri-band and unlocked and by a prepaid card by Cingluar, Tmobile or in the near Future AttWireless which has the Largest GSm Network that I Use and I have a 7210. THat is the suggestion from USA person living in the USA

The sony erricson p800. Is a tri/band pda. I found the human interface pretty unmanageable. The sync software was very slow and did not sync some entries. I swapped this phone for an old Nokia with one of my sons

    Most dissappointing.

Let me know if you find anything.

Just joined and don't know it old threads can get re-activated, but a question for Alan:

Did you manage to get one Cingular SIM card that worked in all those places? I asked at a NexTel shop near Atlanta and was told that a Cingular SIM that would work in GA TN NC & amp; SC wouldn't work in Chicago where I will be next. They rang Cingular to check. Off the record they implied it was a ploy to increase sales.

I took a SIM free 6310i to the US last summer and it worked perfectly. A top tip for you is to buy a US 'pay as you go' type SIM card when you get over there, rather than use roaming on your UK SIM. I was in California, Las Vegas and New York, and bought a SIM card from Cingular Wireless. Much cheaper costs than a roaming UK SIM, e.g. sending a text to the UK cost 5 cents which is about 3p!! Hope this helps
