I am trying to decide between buying the Fuji S602 and the Canon Powershot S45. The Fuji has an impressive 2.8 lens, even at 6X Optical zoom, but the Canon is 4 meg and is so compact. I do know that the Fuji can go up to 6 meg, but why do they advertise it as a 3 meg. I'm kind of skepticle. Please help decide! Thanks -

As far as 'size', you need to prioritize. The larger size is needed to have a stabile hold of the camera -- especially important for zoomed shots. As far as 'resolution' is concerned, realize that the actual difference between 3 and 4 megapixel is dismal. The 6mp feature of the fuji is more 'hype' than anything, but not really a 6mp camera. In 3rd party tests using test pattern cards, the fuji is found to average the same captured data as most 4mp cameras when used in it's 6mp mode. Fuji claims this is due to their octonogal sensors and their diagnol array. Indeed, the test results hat have been performed on the s602 have shown greater data capture than othr 3mp cameras. As well, the pro fuji s2 has been demonstrated to have higher effective capture than it's 'effective' ccd area would indidcate as well. But even 3mp produces excellent 8x10 sharpness prints from a photo lab. If size is an issue, you really should forget the fuji and get an appropirate camera for your needs. Note that if you get a s602, get an extender tube and uv lens to protect the very fragile telescoping lens assembly. You can get this stuff for less than 30 bucks total online.
