I bought one of the new patch of Dansai 1010 DVD players From Tesco stores shocked to find that it do not play VCD/SVCD's.

Tesco have removed this feature, they have killed a perfectly good machine.

Can someone direct me to where or how can I enable this back or is it worth taking the machine back and ask for full refund...

Does anybody know where i could download the firmware from cause i have the same problem. It would be easier to d/l and burn to disk than calling tescos and having to wait for it. T.I.A.

    Dear Paul,

I tried using the firmware from your website, but nothing has happened. Tesco helpline is closed until after the Bank Holiday. Would you mind giving me idiot proof advice on how to put the firmware on the disk so it will run in the DVD player? I unzipped to get 2 files, which I then burnt onto the disk as data, should I have done anything else?

    Many thanks,

    Mogs.

Thanks a bunch, it now works with VCD and SVCD. A great improvement on what was quite a dissapointment. Nice of you to post the answer. Incidentally there's also a region hack if you do a google search.

Tried this myself also. With a bit of research I am assuming 1010.bin needs loading to the MX29F040 flash chip inside the dansai 1010. This can be done via your motherboards bios chip socket, a dos boot disk and a copy of uniflash. Unfortunately 1010.bin is 1039kb and the capacity of the MX29F040 is only 512kb. Could anybody please recommend a flash memory chip of the right capacity for 1010.bin and compatable with the MX29F040.
