I am 17 and am thinking of buying a second hand golf and came across this "1986 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF 1.3 CL, 1986, C reg . 76000 miles, silver, full bodykit, alloys, Weber carb interior, upgrades, Kenwood stereo, MoT Feb 2003, tax March 2003, cheap insurance, ideal first car" do you think this is a gooc car for the asking price of £1250, plus do you think the milage would be genuine. Would insurance be high even though the performance has not been modified?, thanks a lot for the help guys/gals

I have a golf GTi lookalike and every one thinks its a GTi but its only a 1.3 and it cost £575 and i spent about £600 on getting it done up and it is really Phat looking!
It is really good on petrol and it does 50mph in second gear! The insurance is only £550 and i am only 17 but you will get bored with it eventually and want a proper GTi! So i went and got one and this one does 110mph in 3rd!
so there is alot of differnce!

high compression pistons from a punto, re-profiled cams, twin weber barbs, ported and polished head, light weight flywheel, exhaust system and you might be pushing out about 110bhp!!!

in response to the question about geting a better bottem end i have recently had problems with my 4 speed box. So i took a trip to the scrap yard and found myself a 5 speed box for it. the fith gear is the samw ratio as the old forth but the other gears are all alot faster.

I am also 17 and own a mk 2 golf 1.3, it will cost around £1300 without bodykit, alloys...ect and probly more with them as the insurance company think it looks more appealing to thiefs!
hope it helps
