hotpoint won't enter spin cycle

hi there,

my hotpoint (can't remember the make off hand and aren't at home to check - pretty sure it began with a W, but hopefully this problem could be applied to any or all hotpoints)
has not been working properlly for several months.

I believe the promblem uccered when someone mistakanly did a wash with all the buttons pressed (e.g rinse hold, economy, time saver etc).

Anyway, since then the machine will not go on to the rinse cycle on any setting, it still works, and will complete the wash, but we have to manually click the dial around for each stage of the rinse cycle.

I am hoping that this is something you have come up against before, and that there is a fairly simple answer, as we really cannot afford to have it repaired privatley.

It sounds like the machine is quite old? having to turn the dial manualy
If this is the case it may be time to look at something a little more up to date and not to expensive.

It may need re programming owing to the wash cycle being tampered with, have a chat with a local engineer who will probably be able to do it quickly and cheaply
