Washing Machine Problem

My washing machine leaked all over the floor the other day, but I cannot recreate the situation. The washer was still running (not sure what cycle it was in) but there was water all over the floor.. I stopped the washer and put it on drain & spin cycle to remove all the water. The washer started spinning but it was still adding water to the load. Finally I had to turn the water off (on the wall) and then it drained/spun the water out. What part is going bad?
