A month ago we had a MAJOR service done on our Renault Scenic Y Reg Petrol car at a Renault Dealership. Included in the service we had the cambelt, auxillary belt and brakes changed. We paid £1000. A month later (1200 miles done since service) whilest driving up a hill on the way home it just stopped. We had it towed back to the Renault dealership who inspected it and have said it was the alternator pulley which had slipped caused the auxillary belt to frey and parts of that had gone into the cambelt and caused that to break and our engine to blow. We are now looking at a bill for £2500 PLUS! The garage say because the pulley had slipped causing this chain reaction that none of the new pieces they've just replaced are under warrenty and its just one of those things that happens. How does a pulley just slip? I have had a look on many websites and it seems like it could slip if the tension on the auxillary belt was too tight, is this right. I know nothing about cars so it's hard to fight my case with this service manager. It seems too much of a co-incidence that should happen so soon after a major repair. Renault UK customer services manager said we should just listen to whatever the dealer tells us.
