Help me please!!! I have two Beagles, brother and sister and their both 19 months old. Abbie is house trained and when left can hold her mess, whilst Fitch will just do it!! We know it's him because we set up a camera for a week and watched them. They are only left for 2-3 hours at a time and are walked every day for over a hour. I have tried scrubbing the floor to get rid of his scent, but this has not stopped him. When we are with them, he never messes in the house as both pups will let us know they want to go out. I keep them in our utility room with a dog gate stopping them from going into the kitchen and destroying my home as both pups still want to eat everything in sight. Will this ever change? I have been told to rub his nose in it and tell him off, but I know this is not the right thing to do. He obviously thinks it's ok to still cock his leg up my wall when he needs too Sad

Please help me... from one lady who is sick and tired of cleaning up doggy mess Sad

    Hi Louise,

I used to have a golden retriever from him being a pup so went through the house training stage. Dogs are very sensitive to voice change, so as apposed to the nose rubbing I would use the "whats that" in a strong voice when you come into a mess, it doesn't have to be a shout put a strong voice and make sure the dog knows what you are taking about by pointing at the mess and even leading him to it.

Prior to you going out take the dog for a quick brisk walk, this will probably get things moving before you go out and you will be less likely to come back to something left from the dog.

Puppies work great with lots of encouragement and fuss when they do well and strong voice if they don't.

    Hope this helps!

You should teach him to go on command that makes sure that he has been just before you have gone. It also teaches him its worth saving it for outside as he gets a treat for it!
