Two People on 50cc in London?

Anybody commuting daily to central London on a 50CC? Me and my husband are thinking of buying a new vespa 50cc to commute daily 8 miles to London and 8 miles back home (east London). We are getting mixed advice, some people say we will be fine, some people say we will be frustrated by how slow will the bike be, how much petrol will it use etc...we would love to get the 125 but then my husband will need to do the bike licence which is time and £££ consuming..we were hoping to just buy the lovely vespa 50cc and start scooting away. Please help if you have any advice! Many thanks! R+K
