My brother bought a new Hotpoint FF175FFP fridge freezer recently for his flat that he rents out which was recently given a makeover.

What happened was that the fridge freezer was working fine when first turned on and was working the next day as well. The thermostat was set to 1 the lowest position from just after it was switched on and at some point the machine ceased to function as it should. The reason we knew that this had happened is that it was no longer cool AND the internal light wasn’t coming on when the door was opened.

When I reported the fault by telephone I was asked to check the fuse in the plug. I did this and discovered the fuse was working perfectly well.

I then turned up the thermostat to a higher setting and the fridge freezer started. It was now cooling AND the light came on when the door was opened as it is supposed to.

The point I am making is that the FF should not stop working when set to 1 on the thermostat dial, but that it took more than 24 hours for the machine to stop working when set to 1.

Hotpoint eventually sent an engineer to look at the machine and apparently found no fault. I didn't get to speak to the engineer as he arrived early before my mobile was switched on so when he called me there was no answer.

What is annoying is that Hotpoint are now demanding £42 because they say there is no fault with the machine. I maintain there must be a fault of some sort otherwise why did the machine switch off completely and am refusing to pay them.

Anyone got any comments on this.
