Crusader Dryer won't heat

We have a Crusader Dryer, Model 37312D that will not heat.

I took the back off and looked at the two round senders that are screwwed into the drum area. I assume are the thermostats. The right one on unscrewing the round disc on the inside was loose. A continuuity test showed it only worked when tapped. I believe I need a new one and can find them on the web no probs.

The big issue is the left one, somebody before us (brought second hand) has scotch locked the two wires together thus bypassing the unit.

Which unit is the thermostat?? are they both thermostats? if not what is the left one and should it be scotch locked? is suspect not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
