Sony Vaio won't recognize Sony Walkman NWZ-A728

I have a Sony Vaio running Vista Home Premium and my Sony Walkman NWZ-A728 will not work with it. I have checked and updated all drivers, reloaded Vista twice, and ensured all windows updates were installed. When I plug the walkman into the laptop it finds the device, then stops responding when I try to access it. The walkman works fine on other sony machines running vista, so it seems the problem is with with my laptop.
