Hello,
I am looking to buy an estate car in the near future, with a budget of £4000. I have looked at several reviews of estate cars but there seems to be downside to each of them. I was wondering if anyone here would be able to recommend a good car for this budget that is both reliable, economical to run in terms of petrol usage. One final thing is that the car should have a diesel engine.
Thanks for your help -

Would probably suggest Volkswagen Passat Estate 1.7-1.9L TDi, so a diesel engine, so you may get reasonably good torque.
The car has great boot space, it's German built so I would say well built, great fuel consumption for its size - could reach 40mpg, however it depends on condition of your engine, and of course how you drive it.
It is not an amazingly comfortable riding car, however it does have comfortable seating. What you will find is that the power range of the gears is very narrow, and that can make low speed driving a bit jerky.
Overall though, for what it is, great mpg, easy to pick up for around £4000 with reasonable miles, a diesel engine, and lots of space.
