No disc error sometimes

On a DAEWOO 6100P Recorder/player some Region 2 discs will play, eg Pirates of the Caribbean, The Mummy, Van Helsing, Narnia, while others produce a "no disk error" eg Troy, Shrek Three. These oddities only occur with purchased discs. Self recorded discs all so far have played without error. Have tried using a disc cleaner but with no improvement and there's not much point in washing a brand new disc straight out of fhe packet.
Questions. Why do some commercial discs play and some discs not?
How can they be made to play? If not can I get my money back?

I have this error too. I am searching the web for a response. When I have this problem:

    (1) Discs that work, always work; and discs that don't work, never work on this player
    (2) Discs that don't work might be brand new, and they DO work on my Desktop PC DVD reader
    (3) Discs that don't work might be part of a boxed set, and others in that boxed set work.

I see you posted quite a while ago, did you get to the bottom of it?

The regrettable outcome was that more and more discs showed the "no disc" message. I say regrettable because the player ended up unable to play any discs at all. I guess the laser readers had gone. The only good thing to come out of it was that when I contacted the Daewoo helpline and pointed out that the machine was still inside its guarantee period the technician had forms sent to me to request a replacement. I knew that this particular model is probably discontinued ( I could find none for sale in any website) so I had small hopes of a replacement. Within ten days I had a later model DVD as a replacement with the advantages of Div X, USB and HDMI none of which were on the 6100.

I have heard some people speak disparagingly of Daewoo equipment but regardless of what is said I do like the Daewoo customer service!

Of course, this particular sequence of events may not occur to your DVD player.
